Hello,
On my 240 Islandia, where the throttle cable connects to the linkage there's a black plastic cap that hold the cable to the linkage. Not sure of the part name or if they're available. I've searched the parts catalog and couldn't find it.
Here's the linkage with the missing retainer cap:

That's a mercury part, and any merc dealer should be able to get it for you.

That cable is the steering assist cable. Personally... I would just leave it dangle. It's easier to add throttle as you need it, over letting the steering system crash you into a dock. That cable has been disconnected from mine since the day I bought the boat.

******EDIT****

I just did a quick search, and it's listed as "Obsolete". SO... the part numbers were changed to NA. You may have to make a trip to a dealer to find the part number. Besides... a small shop may have those parts on the shelf.

I was looking for the same part . I personally think it's helpful for slow speed maneuvers . While docking I leave my selector in Neutral and the boat slowly moves into place using the steering . While in neutral the throttle is locked so without the extra throttle from the steering the boat doesn't move . Either way the engineers designed the boat with that cable connected .

To each their own. Some like it... and some don't.

BUT........

Using a rebuttal as "Either way the engineers designed the boat with that cable connected"... is just DUMB !!!!!!!!!!!! DO you know how many engineers I've met that don't know what end of the screwdriver to use??? Or worst of all... they design boat parts, but have no PERSONAL interest in boats. (so they don't actually know what's needed)

If anyone cares :), I cut a piece of aluminum to wedge between the ears of the remaining plastic retainer and use black RTV to hold it in place. Dont want to epoxy it in there in case I need to remove it:
