diggin thru some old photo prints. Thought you guys might like my ATM hull superstock race boat built in 1998. 331 lbs. light top deck , hull , seat with 787 ported mtr , factory pipe , novi 44mm , case ported , cyl ported , msd ignition , 200lbs compression, mtr set back 2 inches and a magnum pump. Its still alive in buddies barn 20 years later.

What improvements did the 2" motor set back do for the ski?

One more thing, did you have a Looney Tune character on all your race skis from back in the day?

How bout we tell that buddy of yours that these days those kinds of things need to be sent here.

I agree. Here is the fully ported racer landing Thursday. Carbon fiber hood, Skat pump, extra Jettrim seat options...

Im going to have start from scratch and build one of these x4 hulls from carbon top and bottom. So much fun to play on and ride. Im anxious to see Braleys boat run on video. This carbon xpl 4tec is going to kill me at 86mph. I need to stick to bunny slopes with 60mph boats! https://youtu.be/wAKSXbMbGhM

Ok, so I have not posted an ignorant question in a while ... show patience for we old guys.

In the clean-up of my 96 XP I removed the oil pump to test and replace the small oil lines the adapter connected to the oil pump came out with the pump. My question is if there is any risk of the little adapter falling down inside the mag case when I put it together?

Thanx, only 780 application I have and, dang I do not have a spare on the bench to play with.

Nope, you should be good to go. With the mag cover on, you are inserting the plastic drive shaft thru the stator which the front housing has a "sleeve" that the stator slides over to give center support.

hey everyone. just picked up a 96 xp that I doubt has 50 hours on it. ski was sitting in the guys garage with the cover on it and I got a great deal on purchase. I was a xp 800 owner back in the early 2000s and learned the hard way when it came to taking care of my ski' so this time around before any riding I have went in and replaced all fuel lines and the oil lines as well. took it to the river this weekend and it starts instantly runs perfect and was hauling like a xp should' about 5 min into ride I noticed some grumbling from inside the hull the same sound you hear from the pump at idle except this was doing it after letting off the throttle at high speed' well my wife turned around on the ultra 150 and lined up next to me and we both punched it she took off and I didn't the motor just wound up and there was no thrust so I knew the wear ring was messed up so I limped her back to shore and when I got home inspection showed there is no longer a wear ring in there it basically disintegrated I pulled pump and found the pump housing to be metal I thought they were plastic on the xp. so while I was at it I pulled the vts of course it was full of water and non functional. I have another pump that came with a 96 xp limited boat we have sitting in the driveway that does not get ridden due to race gas only price to ride factor but this pump housing is plastic. can a plastic housing be used on the 96xp? it has a solas sc-xo 16.5-24 in it. the stock pump appears to have a lip around the outside that the wear ring sits in and it is all stuck in there and in pieces. any info on pump swap is appreciated.

The plastic housing with the brass vanes is the pump the 96XP would have came with. Any 140mm pump can work but if one with an aluminum housing is used then extra washers are needed to keep it pinned to the hull because the ears of the metal pump are not as thick as the plastic housing pump ears. That's a perfect impeller choice for the 96XP.

Wear rings fail just like that. They are like tires in that it's not only use but age that kills them. I wouldn't trust one 8 years old or more.

Limited ski in the drive nobody uses? Sell me the parts off it then. Send me a PM if you'd consider it.

Thanks for the info and offer matt if i ever decide to sell ill let you know. Did seadoo use aluminum pumps on any of the 96xp's i cant imagine the pump was ever touched on this ski as everything on it was like it came new. So it looks like water entered the vts box and ruined the motor when i hit the button i do hear a click inside the hull so ill need to troubleshoot and replace whatever is needed. Also noticed oil seeping out of the top of the reservoir where the black grommet is. Is this a common issue? The ski was manufactured 12/3/96.

All 96XP's were sold with the plastic/brass pumps. Only the base model skis (SP, SPI) were sold with metal pumps at that point.

Now if it were a modified ski and you were talking a "metal pump" I'd think maybe you lucked out and got a Skat Trak or Solas aftermarket pump. Those finds are pretty rare even on old race skis though because they had(have) a hefty price tag.

Thanks for the response matt. So somewhere along the line someone had a metal unit put in.
Well the plastic one i have seems ok the prop moves back and forth but no side to side and its missing the cone witch i assume will transfer over. I don't have many post so im not sure if i can post pics yet.
