Since this is my first ski and resto project I figured I would document it. I started off by trading some hunting gear for a 95 Xp with a bandit trailer. Yea it was well worth it for me. I got rid of something I wasn't using and the trailer alone was worth it. Anyway I first got the paperwork headache in NJ cleared up since it had none for both. Took a lot of running around but done! So I started working on the hood and bumpers getting the color out and some general exterior cleaning. Had a buddy look at real quick and said I need a few things... Grey fuel lines gotta come out. That's first on the list. Next the boot on the outside was torn. He said start there so, I did. Ordered parts for it and the choke cable. In the meantime checked the box with electrics and found fuse was blown on trim. Fixed the fuse and put it back. Picking up the fuel lines today. And working on it this weekend. After that stuff and the cable is in the oil in the pump is next.

So I got home and decided to work on the xp for a little. I changed a blown fuse for the trim in the box and finally put it everything back. So I decided to just check the vts. I open it and I hear little water drain out and the connectors slimy. Cleaned out the water ant the connectors. Is that normal

The vts boot is torn in the back by the pump. Replace that and the clamps, unless the clamps already are the plastic ones. But not normal.

The vts boot is on order my buddy pointed it out. Should I worry about the motor in there? I cleaned connections and got water and debri out

Thanks for the info racerxxx… I ordered ss hose clamps today for the lines and thats it… Waiting for some parts to come in now.

1)Fuel lines
2)VTS test and install new boot
3)Change pump oil and wear ring
4) Hopefully we are gtg and just cleaning exterior

I'm assuming clamps for the fuel line? You can get all stainless steel ones from home depot, they come in bags of 10 for like $7 a bag.

haha you made on on here George..... if you haven't already, check out the x4 thread in the two stroke section..... don't forget to greese the driveshaft under the gray cover just enough to puff up the rubber boot.

Will do... Since you recommended the site I got on and started reading and gaining valuable info. This way I don't bug you all the time

Looks like vts motor is seized. put 12v on it and it clicks but wheel doesn't move. Anything else I should check in the meantime?

Parts, parts and more parts have arrived! Vts boot with new clips, vts motor, fuel sending unit, clamps for fuel lines... Looks like I got some work to due but it's gotta wait. I'm going on vacation tomorrow!

Tasks when I get back with pics to follow:

1) install fuel sending unit and change the grey fuel lines out.
2) install new choke cable
3) install vts motor and vts boot.
4) re-install battery test vts.
5) change rpm gauge.

Take it out for a test run!

It would be a really good idea to go through your carbs while you have things torn apart. Also need to clean your fuel selector or order a new one. A lot of times if a ski has grey fuel lines its already too late and the carb is gummed up. There are rare occasions where the PO has only ran ethanol free fuel but that is highly unlikely. And the ski is almost 20 years old im sure the carbs are due for a cleaning.

I bought my manual on ebay with a breakdown of all parts. I think it was a fancy "copy" but well worth it... I think it came with a disc. Also bought the parts list guide. George the 96 xp is very similar and I have that manual if you need part numbers. Fortunately my new GSX has the same 787 so the manual works for me....

Just got back from vacation and started working on it a little. Got the vts motor in. now for the boot

Making progress VTS all done, fuel lines almost done. Carb ones left did some exterior clean up stuff.

Tonight hopefully I can finish the fuel lines and choke cable.

If anyone has 717,720 carbs laying around can you take a close up of where the spring goes on the choke levers. I couldn't get the Allen screw loose and took the nut and lever off. Can't remember how spring goes.

Then the final fix before polishing and taking it out is the rock stuck here. Luckily prop turns freely and isn't damaged!

Update---Ok so I've been busy... Carbs set me back because of seized bolts and choke springs but that's all solved thanks to racerxxx.

Today I found out my air ratchet didn't work so getting vts boot off was a pain. Also began working on reupholstering my seat... And I got the rock that was stuck and luckily no damage to impeller.. Pics to follow

The grey lines are coming on the carb waiting for the base gaskets to come. The seat pad is damp so I'm drying it out

Jet Pump Oil tomorrow and VTS boot will be installed finishing that part up. Leaving carb install and then the exterior changes
