currently the oil res. is completely empty, but the lines still have xps synthetic blend oil in them. my question- can i switch to lucas synthetic blend without purging the system (rotary valve cavity etc...) ? just fill the res. and put new filters ?
i know the synthetic blend oil means i will have to pull and clean the raves at least twice a season. and i have been doing so for the last two seasons.
XPS full synthetis oil is $45 a gallon locally and the lucas semi synthetic api-tc low ash is only $27 a gallon locally. so i wouldn't mind cleaning the raves twice a summer for those saving!!!! thanks,Tim

Tim, FYI, for 3 dollars more with preferred membership you could run Amsoil...
I would def keep the XPS over the Lucas...

Rave valves need full synthetic oil. Pale Rider is right Amsoil is like $30 plus shipping. Amsoil is good stuff I use to use it, but now I get Mystic oil from my Farm and Fleet since I can get it sort of locally and its priced good. Like $20 a gallon for semi and $24 for full if you have one of those places in your area I think they are called Fleet Farm in WI. I have like 15 gallons at home I stocked up when it was on sales for like $17 a gallon.

yes! I use to use mystik JT4 Full Synth in The GPR and ran another case thru the boat, but this year just switched to Amsoil since I have a preferred membership and use their products for the FJ. But buying it thru their online store it`s 27+ a gallon...

Farm and Fleet priced it good. I get beat up by the shipping from Amsoil and the warehouse is here in Chicago. Shipping is like $15 a case so Mystik is about $10 less a jug for Syn. I only switched because if I run out of oil I can get it locally instead of driving to Chicago. I have the dual engine boat plus 2 jetski's so thats 4 engines sucking down oil so $15 or less a gallon is pretty big savings since I have 717 and 657x in my seadoo's and my Yammy GP1200 I can put whatever I wish.I like the purple color for pre-mix since my yammy is. It was hard to tell if I added oil since ams is normal oil color kind of made it hard to tell in the cans.

closest fleet farm is 2 1/2 hours away. i priced the quicksilver pwc full synthetic at walmart here in town, its 38+ per gallon, only 2 in stock and can't get more for a month. so my local options are- XPS full synthetic at $45, XPS synthetic blend at $40, quicksilver full synthetic pwc at $38, and lucas synthetic blend for $27. tonight i am going to way my options and check out the leads you guys gave me. i might just as well order up the full synthetic in bulk. rather than chance gumming up the raves badly w/ the semi synthetic.
the price of the lucas oil is really appealing so if i am gonna get burned on shipping for a full synthetic then i might just be ordering more rave base gaskets for a mid season cleaning, i'm a weekend rider and work out of town so i really don't burn a ton of oil throughout the summer. i think i burned 5 gallons all season last year, and alot of that was pumped out the plug holes due to bad crank seals (rebuilt now)
Thanks,Tim

you need an API-TC synthetic oil, with that said if you order Mystik JT4 thru their online store or even become an Amsoil preferred customer and order thru them. The way I see it is less time jackazzing around looking for oil. around here I`ll burn 10-20 in gas just going from place to place and coming home empty handed. Sometimes the shipping can be a little more, but buying a case or cases at a time pays off... well for me at least...

Just say no to Walmart... :lols:

Andy, today i am going to see family 3 hours away with a fleet farm in there town, soooooo.......... i went to the mystic website and saw that the jt4 synthetic 2-cycle oil is called a synthetic blend with a ashless chemistry. is "synthetic blend" just different types of synthetic material blended? and is the ashless chemistry a concern when rotax rotary engines need a low ash oil?? sorry if i am beating a dead horse on this subject!!! at least i think i've got it narrowed down to two brands. registered to be a preferred customer at Amsoil last night, just waiting for my confirmation email. so its either mystic or amsoil.
i do like how the amsoil intercepter page on there site shows a power valve w/ like 2 years of use and very little build up or wear on it. Thanks,Tim

I used the full synthetic by Mystik JT4. used to be in white bottles, they changed the color of the bottle, but the oil is still purple. It was easy to see that I had premix in the tank due to the color... But I`m diligent in my measuring and making sure there is oil in the fuel, when mixing fuel for the boat now using Amsoil Interceptor...

I did notice recently that Amsoil doesn`t smell as bad as Mystik. Have a good trip visiting family!
It`s raining cats and dogs here... sigh...

sooooo..... i went to fleet farm and mystic jt4 full synthetic was on sale for $19.99/gallon. bought 2 cases, going to give it a try, will prob. pull a rave or two mid season for piece of mind. the rotary valve cavities currently have XPS synthetic blend in them, do i need to purge them? i have new filters and plan on filling the lines w/ the new oil. Tim

wow! That is a smokin price!
If it were me, I`d prolly purge the blend and keep the oil all the same, it might take a long time for the 2 oils to mix down in the RV bearing cavity bc there really is no significant flow.
It will be a mess, doing that tho...
I`m not sure if the chemistry between those 2 oils will cause any issues, but better safe to just have it all one brand/type.

swap out the filters and bleed the lines/pump...

cool that you bought 2 cases at that price!
