Supercharger and oil question???

I have some questions for you guys:

This is just hypothetical and I have no plans to do it at all. Could you take off the supercharger on a model that has a supercharger? Are the engine, computer, fuel injection settings all built around having the supercharger or is it just a bolt on from the factory? If you did what would the power drop be? What issues would you have to address? Any thoughts on this? (Again this question is from curiosity and I have no plans to do it.)

This question is a little more serious. I had my oil changed at winterization with seadoo's regular mineral oil. When I went to have the plugs changed this spring I bought a quart of oil to keep on the ski just in case of an "emergency". All they had was a synthetic blend. They said seadoo is recommending this new synthetic blend for all their four strokes from watercraft to 4 wheelers. They said it was supercharger safe and that I could mix it with the oil that is in the craft now. My questions are:
Has anyone else been told this? Is this oil really safe for the superchargers? Can I mix this oil with the mineral oil that is in it? (I doubt that I would need to, but what if in an "emergency"!) Is this a seadoo thing or just my dealers preference?

Thanks,

Joshua

Welcome Josh....

Welcome to the forum Josh and I think we can help you out a bit.

If your supercharger has the original washers, they are ceramic. If they are working well for you, this means no synthetic oil has ever been added to it. The synthetic oil is the cause to the supercharger failure from years past. DO NOT USE THAT SYNTHETIC OIL.

You can go to any auto parts store and buy regular 4 stroke oil mineral oil that fit Seadoo's requirements. It doesn't have to be any special oil.

The oil requirements for the 2003 supercharged 4-TEC are that it must be a 10w40 weight oil. It must be mineral and confirm the the API designation of one of the following. SG, SH or SJ. The API designation is the most important part of choosing an oil. The second most important part is to choose one and stick with it. Don't use Quakerstate this month then Vavoline next month. The different oils have different detergents, depending on the manafacturer.

I recommend you start learning to change this oil and filter yourself. It is a 2003. If you do it, it'll be more consistant and with the same type oil each time. No worry about a dealer sticking in a synthetic blend.

The reason the mechanic said it was supercharger safe is because in 2008, the chargers were assembled with stainless washers.

As for the bolt on?.....Yeah, that's basically it. I believe the tuning is different and not to sure you can just remove it and it would run. But, I know it can be done. The difference would be going from a 255 hp to as low as 215 hp. Depending on what your hp rating is now........

Supercharger

How do I test my Supercharger on an 04 GTX?
I think this may have gone bad. I'm losing rpm at WOT.
I'm also getting check engine message.

I have an 05 RXP that i'm doing an oil change on. I bought some Penzoil 10w-40 with ATI-SL..You memtioned to use mineral oil..Can I use this?

mineral oil = dino bodies, if it doesn't say synth youll be fine

also sidenote: guys lets try to search the forum before randomly posting in someone elses thread, and search search search

why would you want to detune the motor? you'd go from 255/215/185 to 155 without the charger, roughly

and you would need to replace several parts to make it an NA motor

I have a 2007 GTX LTD (215 Supercharged) but would like to use synthetic oil...Is it simply a matter of changing any washer associated with the supercharger and I could do that...I have had excellent experience with my autos and synthetic oil...which is why I am pursuing this...
Thanks

no reason to, just use mineral, there is no real performance gain to be had

the synthetic oil causing the SC to slip, you could try changing washers but theres no guarentee it wouldnt still slip, just stick with mineral
