Hi all,

Feeling really sad right now as my 2010 wake pro 215 sunk tonight standing vertical under the water.

I only purchased it second hand at the end of June last year 14 hrs on the clock, and it had just come up to 32 hrs.

I was going flat out when all of a sudden I heard the engine sound change and I lost power.

I kept it going as I was about 2kms away from where I launched but it actually died about 2mins after the initial noise was heard....

It took several attempts to restart the ski( the IBR light was flashing on the dashboard) and it was like the battery was flat.

Got it started again and try at low speed to make it back to my car and my teenage boys how were waiting for me......all of a sudden I noticed the nose was ridding up out of the water, and I could see it was sinking at the back.

I tried in vain to move all my weight forward in an attempt to make it back, but the motor died and the ski started to slowly sink.

Ended up calling the police who managed to get a couple of extremely nice people with boats to rescue me, and tow the completely sunken ski ( apart from about two foot of the nose) back to where I launced.

The ski was completely filled with OILY water and took almost half an hour to drain before we could attempt to drive home......

I live about 200kms from Melbourne Australia and will probably try to take it to Melbourne Seadoo ( unless anyone on here has any better suggestions )

I am a single dad with my too boys living with me and right now feeling very sad.

It took two years of finally quitting smoking to buy the ski so my boys could have a little fun in there live.

Could anyone maybe give me the bad news and maybe what you would think it might cost me to get it all fixed???.

To me it seemed like maybe a hose came off and that's way it flooded.

There was water coming from underneath centre of the ski around where the impeller shaft is( a lot of water draining out).....

Any thoughts of cost or what might of happened would be greatly appreciated .

Thankyou
Regards
John :(

Well first things first.. Time is of the essence!! Water out of the motor.

Do this by getting a oil sucker and suck everything out of the engine. There is also a plug on the front of the motor that is a low spot when on the trailer and the Jack is down. You will also have to take the intake manifold off. It looks crazy but there's a few bolts and a few electrical connections and the entire assembly will come out. Also, if is got a super charger there's a couple bolts and that will pull out. Pull the waterbox and dump it out.

Once water is out of everything you can check, put oil and a new filter in and run it for 10mins on the hose. I wouldn't rev it just let it get hot.

Usually that would not be good, but I can pretty much tell you your carbon ring /thru hull seal failed. It's a common problem unfortunately. Right now the important thing is to clear the motor out.

After running it for 10 mins drain the oil again. Refill. Run. Repeat until there is no water evidence on the dip stick. Use cheap oil until the final change.

Then... Deal with the carbon ring issue. You need a special tool to push the collar back and expose the clip. Once that is out you can pull the driveshaft and replace the ring.

Again... The most important part is getting water out. Like now.. Within 24hrs.

I will third their advice.. If you do not get the water out and get it running, you will be purchasing a new engine.

Carbon Seals are a common failure. But I am wondering in your case if it wasn't an engine or hose issue as you stated you heard a noise and then began to have issues. Replacing the Carbon Seal is not a bad thing to do, but may not have been your issue.
