So my "friend" took my boat (2009 150 speedster) out for a rip yesturday and somehow sucked up a few rocks. He said he was able to get 2 outta the 3 rocks out but there is a third one jammed in between the impeller rod (I think I havent seen it yet I'm just going by what he said). If we were to get that rock out what r the probable damages that he done? I had planned on taking it out for my holiday tomorrow but now I am wondering if I should even bother.

Could be fine or it could need a new wear ring or worse yet impellerr could be bent to crap.

I started a new post, so as not to hyjack spetch - I hope that's okay.

I guess yesterday was a day for rocks. I put my 2006 RXP SC in for the weekend. Pulled up to a friends new house & bulkhead and ran straight into a mound of gravel, sand, shells and mud about 8" under the surface. Thank you bulkheading company!!!

I shut-off & pushed off, but it was too late - I had sucked some in. :puke:

At first she idled along fine at 1780 RPM - perfect for no wake zone. But when I gave her throttle she would rev all the way up to 7000+RPM but would not get up and go. Based on the noise, and vibration it was also very clear that there were rocks bouncing around inside the jetdrive.

I rev'd her a couple of times which seemed to clear everything out. I had some bits of white plastic come out the outdrive along with stones and other debris.

The result is that she now runs fine with the following "minor" changes:

1) On takeoff, she shudders, ever so slightly, just until she get up on plane - which is only a couple of seconds after takeoff.

2) She maxes out at 8000 RPM (like she always did) but now top speed is only 62 MPH rather than 65 (there is a 1 mile stretch of wind protected area that I, and others, can speed test and get similar results regardless of weather/water conditions).

The rocks that came out... yea, I'm sure they did some bit of damage... and based on my performance test above, I'm guessing a slightly dinged, cracked or bent impeller (???)

I'm more concerned about the bits of white plastic.
I'm no mechanic and have few tools to even attemt taking anything appart - unless I must.
I thought about bringing her to the local shop here in Surf City NJ, but at $450 for just a pre-season check oil/lube, I know I'm looking at big bucks for them to even look at her - much less repair. :willy_nilly:

Based on how she's runnning and what happened, I have the following questions:
1) Could the pieces of white plastic be sheared off of a plastic impeller or impeller housing, inside?
2) Could the pieces of white plastic be from the (dreaded) wear ring I've read about on this site but still have no idea what it is?
3) Should I be pulling her immediatly to determine what (if any) damage has occurred?
4) Should I just enjoy her till she either fails (not apparant that this will happen) or should I just wait and if she makes it to the end of the season, bring her back up north and check it out over the winter.

Any advise or help is greatly appreciated.

And get it looked at or go in and see yourself. Vibrations are from bent or unaligned parts and might lead to other problems.

Almost certainly your wear ring and/or impeller. You should be able to take a look in there and see. Do a search, and there are a few wear ring threads that should help you out.

This thread by Dr. Honda isn't directly applicable, but certainly worth a look:

Dr Honda's post is the reason I decided to pick up my tools, there are a couple of diferences, but it is basically the same. I just did this on a '05 RXP.

You'll need grease not oil and a metric #12 allen you can probably get at an auto parts shop. Hardware stores only carry up to #10.

Here are a few pic's.

Put the allen in the vice and get the impeller to start moving with the impeller tool and a large wrench (I used a 3' pipe wrench) then turn the pump over and complete the loosening with the allen and put the impeller tool in the vice.

Hey Stinky, I have an 06 RXT and I was tearing everything apart to get the wear ring out and when I removed the tail cone there wasnt any grease or lube of any sort. It was bone dry and all the bearings and what not was all chewed up to a metal powder. So I know I need to replace all of it but I cant get the impeller out. How did you secure the impeller side so you could use your pry bar with the allan wrench? Any help would be HUGE since I am very new at this and only have the forums to go on since I dont have money to blow. Thanks!!

Cheers- Mamba
