Yes - multiple problem coincidences are puzzling and usually not coincidence after all. It could be that trying to start the engine when it was seized by the rope and the current passed from the relay to the motor was excessive and burned the relay contact to the point that it would not energize the motor. The fact that it clicked would indicate the relay coil was correctly energized, but its' contact was not passing current to the motor. As mentioned it was an easy fix once the cause of the problem is known.
