Third time out on my 96 sportster and I forgot to put the drain plugs in. I went out shot about a mile away from the boat launch and decided to stop and have a drink and take in some scenery. After sitting there for about 30 minutes I noticed that more water than normal was coming in from the drain at my feet (is there a one way valve that is suppose to be on that hose?). Anyway I try to start the boat and it justw cranks over for about 15 seconds then stops. I try again and again and the boat won't crank over. I pull the engine cover off and see water up to the top of the head. Luckily someone is close by and tows me back to the dock.

I pulled the boat out on my trailer and let it drain out really well, pulled the spark plugs and cranked it over about 15 times for 20 second intervals untill no water comes out of the engine. I put the plugs back in and it starts up after about 3 times trying it. I let it run for about 30 seconds and shut it off, waited about 10 minutes and started it again. Started right up.

I put the drain plugs back in and put her back in the water and went out for about 4 more hours and ran great. Is there anything else I should be concerned about? Anything else I should check?

Thanks

Funny ! It does eventually happen to most people... but you got it taken care of quick... so... there should be no damage. It was the right thing to do, by running the engine for a while. With time, and heat... I'm sure there isn't a single sign of water in it.

Now... as far as the water at your feet... you need a new scupper valve. It's a generic boat part... and they are on ebay all the time fo about $6 shipped. Under the swim deck... you will see a rubber flap, and a white plastic ring. Basically, the rubber flap has gotten hard on yours, and is no loner sealing.

Check eBay item number 160715173367. It's what you need, and is about $6 delivered.

Thanks, Dr. Honda!! I am from near Indiana Pennsylvania, working up in central Michigan. What area of the rivers do you go to down in Pittsburgh, I was thinking of taking my boat up to Kittanning area when I am home, or Raystown.

Cool. Welcome.

The wife's folks are up in kittanning... and another member... DSW222... he is up there too. If you get home... shoot me a PM, maybe we can hook up some time.

I go to a bunch of different places. We like the point... but we go to a few of the local lakes too.

Oh... just an FYI. This year... Lock #6 and #7 on the Allegheny, are only running on the weekends. (That's the Kittanning pool) So... if you put in up there during the week... you will be stuck in the kittanning pool.
