I'm stumped? I have the 4 bolt heads drilled off and lock washers off along with flat washers. Its been in salt so it's stuck.Any ideas how to get the gate off pump? Thanks

I don't have all the information from the pictures. So here are my assumptions 1) The pump assembly off the boat. 2) The impeller turns freely inside the wear ring

This is what I would do
1) remove the reverse gate
2) remove the nozzle
3) set the pump level with the output upwards, use two 2x4s
4) pour diet coke in the mounting holes that you have drilled out
5) let it sit
6) use a cylindrical jack to gently break the two parts

Take pictures and post

Since the bolts were so corroded you needed to drill them out, it is very likely that the reverse bracket itself is stuck to the studs of the bolts with corrosion. I always get a bit of corrosion in those long tubes of the reverse bracket and ream them out a bit and lube them before reassembly.

You will need to break that corrosion free before the bracket will slide off the studs that are still stuck in the pump. Soak it real good with something, maybe a penetrating oil would work, or even vinegar. Saltwater is better than Locktite!

Keep in mind that the venturi is usually stuck to the pump with a bit of silicone type sealant on the mating surfaces so once you get the studs out of the pump, it usually takes a couple taps of a rubber mallet to break them apart.

As stated above, let the penetrating lube sit for a day or two. try tapping with a rubber mallet working around the pump or gate.

Think I 'll saver the pump but will sacrifice the cone or gate.Cut it off.
I have the gate suspended and using a sledge and punch along with map gas.It will not budge.
Or put it back on the boat n go! Bahahaha Thought about making a 4 prong press plate and try to press it out.
After more thought I think I'll need a Venturi .If I cut there it should all come apart. But then I'd still have stuck bolts in reverse bracket .And have no idea how many drill bits I'd burn up drilling 4 SS bolts.Pretty much still thinking .
Thanks for input.

I'm grinding through Venturi far enough to go through bolts.Cut 2 ,will cut the other 2 tomorrow.
Any one have a Venturi ? 2006 challenger.
Thanks

I take you did not try the diet-coke trick? It's pretty good at eating out corrosion. Good luck on finding that part.

Going to get a gallon of d coke now thet it's apart .Seen vids of d coke removing rust. Here is how I cut it.

Heck I would leave it over night. The acid in the coke will take care of the corrosion. The Enamel parts will stay protected. Thanks for taking pictures.

24 hrs in coke & a press.I thought it was gona grenade !image.jpg
Now I see they didn't go all the way down, humm.Made one heck of a pop.

That part is good looking after that soak! Wow that looks like you put serious pressure on those bolts before that pop. Is the chipping near one of the bolts from sawing or just use? Mine went apart and back together easy. I had a heck of time breaking everything the first time due to the salt water too. Still not as bad as yours

That's a spot where the paint corroded off.The coke didn't clean it ,it looked good to begin with, except that spot that's corroded.I cut a blade width away from pump.Thats why there's about 1/4 inch of bolt sticking out.The venture was the cheapest part to replace. But a ton of work saving pump and gate bracket.A 10 pound sledge and punch, about 20-25 good hits with map gas.Thats after pressing nubs down with air over hydraulic press.Needed more arbors to use the press to push bolt through, that's why I used a sledge hammer.ONE out and 3 to go.
Used vice grips ,map gas to remove bolt threads from pump.Looked like yellow lock tight was used.Heat and would only turn for a second, more heat.Repeat.....About an hour for those.Crazy!
Cutting here in this pic,I think,is important.Or maybe been thinking too much.Bahhhaha

crazy people out there!!!
i use marine grease on those bolts, never come loose and never have seized......

Yep I'll do that (grease)on new bolts. These were stuck when I bought boat.
Took flap off gate and almost have the 4th boot out.Bet it's pushing 4-8 ton?Lots n lots of popping.
Yah I'm crazy lol By the way THIS IS DANGEROUS and stupid.I highly don't recommend trying this! With a press that is....

Sounds like you got it apart, nice! I didn't think you would..... I've beat the crap outta a few stern drives trying to separate the cases, usually one or the other half is destroyed..

Make sure to ream those reverse bracket holes out real good after you pop out all the studs, and as others have said lubrication or anti-sieze is your friend to reduce the likelihood of this ever happening again. Glad to hear you got everything apart without too much destruction. It always amazes me what saltwater can do...

The grease will help but the problem from the get go was and is electrolysis. You have two dissimilar metals (stainless steel bolts & aluminum gate) immersed in an electrolyte (salt water). Those parts are welded together. Do you have zinc buttons attached to these parts? I bet they are long gone. Google 'electrolysis 101' for more information.

1 donut on pump ,1 on reverse gate.I ran a drill bit through the bracket holes.White powder line size of a pencil 3 inch long. They were stuck.I was told it wouldn't have taken much longer for the powder build up to bust through the bracket.I bought a new pump. The pump housing seal under the c-clip was shot and messed up the finish.Probably wouldn't seal.So I figured new was better than playing around getting stuck with a froze pump.Pulling the head to put new valves in also.Heard there hollow two piece junk.04-06 known to break.

let me know how you go taking the head off and replacing the valves, i'll have get around to mine.
