Ok i have had this 96 XP with the 787cc Rotax for about an year. I wont have spark on inital start up but after a while of waiting it will start sparking by some kinda magic. I've checked all the connections in both the front and rear electrical boxes. Once the spark is there then its pretty much is good it will run like a top but once you stop it and put it in the garage after riding it you can go out and try startig it and get nothing again.

I've tried cutting 1/4inch off the plug wires.
I've switched out the coil and tested it on another and that ski fires right up.
I've regapped the plugs and replaced.

What other parts should i test and how can i test the i have a digital meter and i can check resistance and volts.

that 800 motor is notorious for pickup coil problems that will cause no spark condition.
bad rectifiers can also cause it to do weird things.

Replace?

Do you think i sould just replace the stator and the pick up or just the pick up? or what would you suggest? I mean i could tare into it and replace things but the weird thing is it does it for the first time of the day. I have the inline spark checkers on both plugs and neather one lights up.

Stator and pick up

i took off the front of the cover and looked inside the and there were metal shavings all over the place but it was really odd that there were there but i took a powerful magnet and it ended taking most of the shavings off and then the air hose removed the rest. I put it back in and it seemed to do the trick. popped right off like a brand spankin new one!
