Starter Relay Clicking

So I have looked at all (I think) the threads on clicking relays and have done the following: 1st made sure battery was charged. Done- fully charged. 2nd checked fuses and all are OK. 3rd Tried shorting across poles of real (solenoid) to turn over starter. Heck of a spark but no starter just one "click". When I hit the starter button, I can feel the relay click. Does this mean I need to go next to my starter?

Final piece of info: A month ago, friends of ours were riding my GSX and flipped it over and rolled in WRONG direction. No problem, when I got it home I went through flooded engine protocol and ran it about an hour. Ran fine.
Went back last week and you know the rest. Can anyone help. Would like to winterize before cold which is around the corner. Thanks

Yes, it sounds like the starter is your issue.

I had the same problem when winterizing and replaced mine today. I found that the previous owner put one of the cheap Chinese starters on so replaced it with a good used OEM seadoo starter. Works perfectly now and turns the engine over twice as fast as the old junk one.

You'll want to either rebuild your current starter if OEM or find a good used one. I decided not to rebuild the used one I got before installing as it was in mint condition.

I do have an extra (used) starter to put in. Any way to specifically check starter. I have the meters to check voltage and amperage.

How many amps does a good 787 / 951 draw?

To check the starter:
- Remove the neg. cable from the battery.
- Bypass the starter solenoid by connecting both of the red cables to the same terminal, it doesn't matter which terminal.
- Touch the neg. battery cable to the battery, if the starter is bad it will not turn the motor over.

Pull the plugs and see if the engine turns over by hand. Lets just make sure you are not fighting a seized engine.

Ditto check and make sure your engine and or pump is not seized. Also the test I advised also assumes that you have a good battery and all cables and connections are good.

Turned the engine and was fairly easy up to a point and then wouldn't go any further so went back.

Will try try testing starter tomorrow by bypassing the solenoid. That makes lots of sense but shouldn't it have done that when I shorted them with my screw driver, or am I missing something?

You should be able to turn the motor over all the way. So something is binding up, either the motor, the pump, or the starter. I would begin by removing the pump and see if the motor turns over freely. You did remove the spark plugs, right?

Until you can turn the engine all the way over by hand, nothing else really matters.

As Lou stated, can be a few things. Pulling the pump will eliminate the pump and bearings.

I was able to turn the engine all the way. Guess I was just being a wussy the first time. But the good news (I guess good) was that I got to the starter, removed it and found that it was frozen tight. I realize now that getting all that water in there caused the corrosion even tho I'm sure its supposed to withstand the moisture.
Will change out the starter this weekend as I am 99.9% sure thats what my problem it. Have the new design solenoid that I will put in so as not to have to worry about that later.

If that is the factory, starter, rebuild it! Aftermarket starters are junk.

If you heard the click, that mean the induction part section from the relay is working good but, it still need to check the contact part section from the relay. It should close when you heard the click...
That closing motion send the current to the starter.

If possible, rebuild the starter if it is an OEM. As noted above, most aftermarket are junk.

Got my extra starter on today and PTL it started right up. I will rebuild the old one just to have an extra. Will get my wet suit out and take it to the lake and really check it out.
