starter problem?

I own a 2002 gti le seadoo. I installed a brand new battery but it will only turn over 1time. If i jump start it out of water and then run it in water it runs like a rabbit. Could it be the starter? If so where is it and how do I get it out? Is there a way to test it before removing it? thanks for any help

bad battery

Did you charge the new battery before installing it... Some of them need ah hour or two on a trickle charger.. I just recently had a new battery that was no good, would not charge at all..

yes, this is third battery in two days. Went out yesterday and it cranked right up. Took it out and it runs great. Tried to restart and it would only turn over once, just like a dead battery. I just dont get it.
