start, won't start, power, no power

just got a 98 XP limited. replaced the line from the gray ones to Goodyear Fuel hose, new fuel filter, and took the carbs off last night and took the mini carb fuel filters out and cleaned them (they were filthy).

just got her back from the lake. She'll fire, with enough pumps from the primer, and about half the time she'll idle in the water. the half the time she won't start unless you primer her again.

if she is running and you give her gas, she'll get to about 3-5k RPM's but just for a few seconds then DIE. although she'll get there quick she dies.

i'm guessing maybe the A/f ratio is off? or do i just need to rip the carbs off again and do a total rebuild on them?

I took the carbs apart because it was surging at WOT, and narrowed it down tot he fuel filters in the carb.

sounds like you need to completly take them apart and clean them, and replace both of the fuel filters, I do not like to just clean filters, and you could have got gunk into them, the n/s and or jets could also have crap in them, I would do a complete rebuild of the carbs...and start there
