Sportster steering wheel removal?

I took my boat out on the weekend and it's only a small thing but it's bugging me. The steering wheel is slightly off center. If I hold the wheel straight ahead, the boat creeps to the left a little. I tried to remove the wheel and straighten it - thinking it might have splines - but after removing the nut, the wheel will not budge. I'm not a small bloke and gave it a fair bit of effort but I was worried I would damage the wheel or something else. Is there a trick to removing the steering wheel on these?

Cheers,

Kris

It's probably easier to align the pump to the wheel.
I don't have a SD boat but I would think there are adjustment "screws" similar to the throttle adjustment cable.
Try looking in the back by the pump(s).

It's not splined but it's on a key way so you can't adjust the wheel. You'll need to adjust the cable etc.. there should be a procedure in the manual. There probably is some "slack in the steering helm as well. My Speedster wheel will flip flop depending on which way the wind is pushing me. It' never bother me too much, I'm always keeping my eyes on where I'm going. Seadoo actually makes a goofy puller that reaches around the back of the wheel.
