Hello, i have a problem with my Sportster and not sure what is the problem. I took it out for the first ride and it was hesitating half throttle a couple of times and then it went normal for like 15 minutes and it’s stop like it lost power. It’s like I would had pull the key. I‘ve tried to start it and I could hear a grinding sound. I pull the plug and they were oily (From winterizing?)Not sure what’s the issue.

First thing I would do is check the jet pumps see if that’s source of grinding if not then my next action would pull the supercharger and inspect. I had a bearing let go on a supercharger and did similar. Stopped while running, awful screech when trying to start etc. Can tell you from experience don’t continue cranking until you identify where the screech is coming from.

Sounds exactly like when my supercharger front bearing let lose and had touchdown. Grinding, shutdown. Nice spray of aluminum dust from the impeller through my intake prob flamed out the engine. Lol.

You could wiggle the shaft after I removed the charger

Hi Dooguy, I’ve looked into the intake hose of the supercharge and there’s some aluminum residue on the inside of the hose and some in the intake itself. I guess the supercharge has failed. I’ve tried to turn it with force and nothing….. I have to get the key to remove one of the torx bolt and than remove it to what’s the damage.

My 2006 Sportster had the exact same issue with the oily plugs. I pulled my hair out to figure it out.
Symptoms:
bad idling
sluggish response
It'd run normal once the throttle applied but occasionally just die.
What I noticed:
When I changed plugs it'd run great for 5 minutes.
The plugs were oily when I removed them but it seemed the oil was pristine. No burning. Like I'd just poured oil on them.
Solution:
Spark plug tubes were leaking from the bottom up. Took valve cover off. Cleaned everything. Pull spark tubes. RTV bottoms with Ultra Black. Wait 7 minutes for them to set before reinserting. then wait a day before using the machine. Haven't had a problem since.

The other issue it had was fuel filter had never been replaced. Boat would fall flat on its face at WOT. If you've never replaced the filter, here are a couple tricks. Don't drop nuts and washer getting it out. They're 10mm. Stuff a rag anywhere you could possibly lose a nut. Follow everyone elses replacement procedure but on reinstall, mate the fuel pump gasket to the fuel pump, not the tank. It'll save you. Trust me

Not sure what you mean. The pump comes out as a whole unit. bottom filter just pops off. The inner filter is accessed by drilling out 2 aluminum rivets. There arent any bearings (unless perhaps you disassembled the fuel pump itself?) Maybe post some pics

Ok, the supercharger. Count the bearings. There should be 7 of them. Remember there are plastic retainers in the in the raceway. If they break, it will look like there is something missing but there should be 7 plastic fingers.

Mine were all in there and did not touch down, so I would assume that they are all in there.

For reference... Nothing left the bearing assy. Luckily for me and it appears you, no compressor wheel touchdown. 2nd pic though was from the pounding the shaft raceway took from when the plastic fingers sheared off and allowed the bearings to loose proper spacing. This results in the play you are noting. The SC needs to be rebuilt. Again, if they are all there, you lucked out like I did.

Talk to PWC Muscle. Greg will get you fixed up. I posted some stuff on facebook and very happy with their service. Are they the cheapest, NO. But they do use OEM Sea doo Parts. Also they will work with you. Just a FYI they rebuilt my chargers and one i thought was toast. They threw in a housing for free after one had touchdown. They also sell new which i was totally going to do for a$200 more but in all honestly its all the same. They turned them around in 1 day after they recieved, waived the shipping back. You will have to email PWC Muscle and Greg will get back to you in a day.

Ok, I’ve looked and there’s 7 ball bearings. I don’t see any plastic fingers. I guess I’ll need to remove the shaft. If I split the casing and remove the turbine I should be able to remove the shaft. Or, there’s a trick to remove it. Thanks
