Did you go through the steps in my post above? It really sounds like you have an air leak at the fuel selectors. If you run that line like I described above, you’ll be able to either verify or rule that out...
Yes the previous owner bypassed the selectors and the fuel line comes from the tank straight to the water separator. The other motor works fine you can see the fuel being pulled into the filter.
Just put a new filter on but I’m going to go back over everything this afternoon when I get off of work. It’s just got me puzzled that one motor is working fine and this one is not.
Well I’m thinking you had a leak at the filter/separator for that engine. If this doesn’t do it, you’re going to have to pull the carbs on that motor and start looking through the fuel pump side of the mag carb.
So tonight I put new gasket on the carbs started it up and sprayed starting fluid around the intake and carbs to see if there was a leak rpms stayed smooth. So then I swapped the two ports on the water separator thinking maybe on side is bad it did the same thing emptied the fuel filter. Then I went through the carb sticky to make sure I rebuilt it right everything looked good. So I’m still scratching my head.
Those filters are only designed to flow one direction. Make sure you’ve got the hoses hooked to the correct ports now. There should be little arrows stamped into the housing.
Water separator is correct filters the right direction so today I swapped the carbs from the motor that has no fuel issues and on the fuel issue motor it does the same thing. I’ve replaced all the motor fuel lines now I guess I’ll have to replace from the separator to the tank and the returns. Now I know the carbs are good I think it has to be a bad hose or something.
Did some more testing and found when I disconnect the return on the carb and pump the ball fuel pours out so I tried it on the other engine and no leak down. So what inside the carbs would cause this problem?

I’m a little confused here. What ball are you taking about? And what do you mean by no leak down? I’m assuming someone has installed a ball primer on the fuel lines...
You’re going to have to pull the carbs and check for a blockage or bad check valve then.
And it shouldn’t have a primer. That’s been added by someone. If it were me, I’d remove it. I don’t like straying from factory on anything fuel related...
Ok cool. Last night I rebuilt the carb everything looked good I made sure the check valve disc were blue line up. I’ll pull them again and look for a restriction.
I’d like to that you guys for the help and answering my questions. Took the boat out Friday to finish breaking in the new motor and had zero issues motors ran flawlessly. Thanks again.
