Speedster 200 loud screeching

So I just started up my 2009 seadoo speedster for the first time this year, getting ready for some warm weather. The starboard engine started up perfectly fine and sounded 100% normal, I proceeded to shut it off and attempt to start the port engine. It turned over for a second then sounded like it wanted to start and didn't, so the starter turned off. I hit the start button again and it fired right up. It sounded awful, it was a super loud screeching noise, scared the heck out of me, I immediately shut the engine down. I visually inspected the motor everything and tried again. Same result. I have no idea what this could be, I can not tell if it is coming from the motor or impeller, and I am too scared to run it longer to try and find out. I put the boat away properly following this video. Using this kit. It sat outside under a large RV tent over the winter, protected from the elements. I am in Maine, so the temps were below freezing.

Anyone have an idea for what I should do? Thanks!

Will I need a special tool in order to get at it? Looking at the parts diagram, assuming you are talking about #267000030. Thanks, I am sorry for the questions!

I'd confirm that is the issue before buying anything. Start it and see if that is where the screeching is coming from.

Officially they are supposed to be pressed. But many have used a hammer and a perfect fitting metal rod.

So I should start the motor and check if that is where the sound is coming from? And I have a press, I just have seen a little tool with splines that I thought was used to remove the impellers.

I would start it to isolate the noise. And yes, the impeller does require a splined tool. You can remove the pump assembly as a unit before removing the impeller.

Get under the boat and check the shaft guard on the port side. I started our boat once and heard a terrible sound coming from one of the pumps. When I checked the shaft guard it was slightly loose and resting on the shaft causing metal on metal contact for a few seconds. A quick tightening of the mounting screws and all was good again.

Maybe you will get lucky. i had the same thing happen, once. It turned out to be a zip lock bag that went through the jet pump and lodged sticking out of the impeller. Once I got it out, no noise...

I have no idea what this is. I started it up again and it wasn't there. Then I shut it down and started the starboard motor, then the port motor and it made the screeching noise. So I shut them off. Tried again with both motors and it didn't do anything, so I shut them both off and started the port motor on its own and it made the noise for a few seconds then stopped. I took a video of this last attempt. I also think I could smell something like burning rubber, but to be fair the boat was being started in my garage so it could have just been exhaust.

I am really confused as to what this could be.

It sounds like something is grabbing/sticking and the engine is out spinning it. Only two things can really do that I believe. The starter Bendix or the SC clutch pack.

I would do one more thing. Let's make sure the impeller itself is spinning. Especially when the noise is heard. You could have a stripped driveshaft.

Another thing is the engine idle sounds much lower toned than the other engine. And the idle seems to fluctuate slightly. I will check that when I get back

. It just seems weird that something would strip like that from just sitting over the winter.

How can I check either of those things?

For example. If the pump bearings seized, the shaft splines can get wiped out. Thus the engine spinning but not the shaft..

Okay, I will pull it tomorrow. Is it okay to run the engine without any sort of load (without drive shaft). Thank you for all the help!

Sorry to bring it back up, but I was finally able to remove the pumps from the boat. The bearing is not seized and seems to be spinning freely. How do I remove the driveshaft? Also can I start the engine without the driveshaft in? Don't want to hurt the boat.

Loosen the clamps on the bellows, force the top hat looking thing back, under the top hat there will be a C-Clip or an O-Ring. O-Ring is the old style, if you have an O-Ring, replace it with the C-Clip. Once you pull the Clip, the driveshaft can slide out..

Should the bellow be difficult to pull back? I am having a lot of trouble getting the room to get the "top hat" back.

have you tried to spin the sc impeller with your fingers to check the sc clutch yet?
you cant start the engine without the drive shaft in, you'll have oil from the pto everywhere.
the top hat can be seize on the c clip, try a bit of lube. there is a tool for pushing back the top hat, there is a video around on youtube showing pushing back. i would say it would be a little harder because room and hanging upside down in the speedster 200.

I have not tried that yet. I have spent the last three weeks just trying to remove the pump. The pump bearing sounds and feels like it is dry (no grease). I just want to check everything before I put the boat back together. I think I may have to cut the bellows off in order to get to the top hat, there is absolutely no room to maneuver. Would a dry bearing do cause the symptoms I described? I can see it would be making the noise, but intermediately like that?
