I bought boat as a project in winter - outside was little ruff and i couldn't test the boat... Over month ago i had put boat on water first time and seems like engines don't have power. Driver side engine showed Check Engine light after few min on water; Passenger side engine showed Red Pressure Engine Light On and was smoking; I didn't replaced spark plugs etc. yet. I took boat to the Sea Doo dealer; after paying 250$ i get answer: both engines are very noisy, ignition coils have gone out, sounds like crank bearings or rod bearings have failed; hours 102h on both; dealer also showed me on JetSki how good 4tec should work and my are little too noisy; but he didn't check pressure on cylinder; i asked him why i got check engine light and oil pressure on; he's answer was: because engines are broken and they coming apart. He recommend new ones from SBT as a replacement for my.

Yesterday i dropped my boat to marina shop in my city... They charge 50$/h; Im ready to rebuild engines but on the begging i think we will check the compression on cylinders; as far as rebuild do u guys think is wort it to replace cranks, rods bearing? I don't think engines are that bad to replace new cylinders etc. maybe is a good idea to open them and check what inside needs to be done? And how about costs? How much rebuild can cost me; How much for labor and parts? If total will get close to 3000$ for both maybe better will be get 2 rebuild ones from SBT for 3600$

How many psi of compression should be on good 4tec N/A?

So mechanic from marina check the boat and i have some info... Compression on right engine (driver side) 185 180 190; Left side 170 165 155 - he says engines are fine; Noise are coming from drive and JetDrive needs to be rebuilt on both units; Also there is electric problem with ignition - ignitions coils are fine; spark plugs too, there have to be something else; they also switch computers and they are fine... Any suggestions? As far as Rebuilding Drive, Do u guys think it can cause drop in power and performance on water? How expensive are parts to rebuild that unit? I'm not a boat expert so thanks for all answers...

I rebuilt a 155 4tec over the winter, with what sounds like very similar issues that you are experiencing. I ordered new crank/rod/balance shaft bearings with an engine gasket kit and a complete set of stretch bolts from SBTalong with a starter. I had taken my cases/pistons/crank to a well experienced machine shop locally who told me my crank was okay my piston rings were garbage and my cylinders needed a hone. I ordered the std. rings and 1 piston from the parts link at the top of the page (I attempted to remove the rings off 1 piston by myself ... bad idea). "All in" I was at $1400.00 on the rebuild. You'll save even more as I had customs, shipping etc.

If you have the right tools, the right documentation and patience its actually pretty easy to do. Mind you I had the machine shop set the pistons/rings after doing all the measuring and honing cylinders. So I just had to follow instructions in shop manual on re-assembly, basically just bolt the damn thing back together.

Post back if you have any questions ... I might be able to help you out I saved a pile of useful pdf's (setting bearings/proper timing etc). Griz/Doc Honda/Dennis also know they're shit on engine rebuilds and if you post specific questions they are a great resource. Just try not to be too general.

Good luck man ... it was well worth it for me!

Thx for reply...
For now my mechanic will remove One JetDrive to check condition of bearings etc, They will need to be rebuild any way; Also i will now how many hours of labor it will take; Parts like bearings, seals are relatively cheep... After JetDrives they will focus on that electrical problem and boat should fly on water... That compression will be last think to do... but as they say for now is to focus on JetDrives and misfiring of ignition...
Will keep post... Thx for help

Sorry man I was a bit of a keyboard ninja and didn't quite read your/interperet your post properly now understanding you want to just start with a pump rebuild. This is easy ... pull em' off and just spin the shaft just the feeling in the spinning will tell you what kinda condition the bearings are in... search the forum ... hoards of posts on 4tec pump rebuilds.

As for the misfire is it contantly misfiring? See this thread ...

It might help ...

Everything was going slow... I had overseas trip last month and without me Marina only removed Jets; Now im taking over and we should put boat on water in 2nd half of next month... bearings are all done; wearing the same I just ordered new parts from SBT and few from SeaDoo - waiting only for few bearings from SeaDoo;

2nd think is something else. My boat was small project and as progress go i did new paint but Seats was needed to be reupholster. Unfortunately i couldn't find nobody who can do good quality job for the right price; The cheapest price to do all seats was 1900$ from Copy Cat (cushions ready) - I thinki this is too much for seats only... during my trip to Europe last month (i was born and rise in Poland) i visit my buddy shop who is doing high quality reupholster seats for cars, boats etc. I was told his shop can do all new custom cushions for 1000$ and i will only staple them back on seats like in original. So i removed my old ones and send them to his shop overseas. Now hes doing copy of original and in 2 weeks i should have brand new custom seats for my Speedster. I told him to keep plans and dimensions for future; maybe somebody from u guys will be interested in Speedster 200 New Custom Seats; My original seats are blue, white and grey; New ones will be the same color except grey - i ordered gold ;-)... As soon as i get them i will post pictures how they come out...

So finally my seats are done... Right now they are shipped by my friend from Europe to my home in States. I should get them by next week and will start to reupholster them. So far they looks great compare to old ones...

NEW SEATS:

As for the boat my season 2012 is probably done... Had to order 2 sets of "reverse gates" holding JetPumps and so far they are on back order - boat still is in service; the most frustrating is waiting time for parts... Maybe in late September will try my boat, hopefully...

JetPumps are rebuild now and will instal them in next week... Few days ago i bought CanDooPro from CanDoo to focus on electric problems of my boat - today i check both engines and they had 3 faults:

Engine Driver side:
p0351 Occurred - coil, p0261 Active - Injector 1

Engine Passenger side:
p0339 Occurred,

I know definitions from net about those faults; As Engine Driver side by CanDooPro i tested all 3 Injectors and Injector 1 was not working; I connect wire from working Injector 2 to Injector 1; Test Injector 2 and nothing happen - looks like Injector 1 is dead. After i connected wire from Injector 1 to Injector 2 (with i know is good), test it and nothing - so there is also problem in wire from 1st Injector...

I delete occurred codes except p0261 with is Active...

I found procedures for fault p0261:
Possible cause:
Damaged injector, damaged circuit wires, damaged connector or damaged ECM output pins.
Service action:
Check for 11.4 to 12.6 ohms between engine connector pin 1 and ECM connector pin 15. Check for 12 volts on pin 2 of injector connector.

Any suggestions about that p0351 -coil and p0261 - Injector/Wire? I just started getting into electric stuff for 4tec and as that procedures go can u guys explain me where to look for that "engine connector pin 1 and ECM connector pin 15; pin 2 of injector connector?

As far as Passenger Side engine i only deleted occurred code p0339; I have to put Jets in next week and test boat on water but i like to fix electrical problems right now before i be uble to start engines on water with new Jets or at least get parts (new coil, Ignition, crank sensor etc.)

Thank You
