Speedster 150 - Hour meter went from 10 hours down to 7 while at the dealer - WTF???

I purchased a brand new 2010 Speedster 150 (255HP) a couple of months ago (leftover stock). I absolutely love the boat, and have watched the hour meter religiously. Almost to the second when it finally hit 10 hours, I put it on my trailer and took it to my local dealer here in Austin for my 10 hour service.

They performed the service, and I just picked up the boat last night. When I got home I figured I would do a quick check to make sure the battery was still charged. To my amazement, the hour meter now reads 7 hours. I know that sounds impossible, but I am absolutely 100% positive beyond a shadow of a doubt that it was 10 hours when I dropped it off.

Any ideas on how this is possible? Naturally I am a bit concerned, because I don't want other "electronic gremlins" to start visiting. Just thought I would see if anyone has encountered that. I have a 5 year warranty, so I figured I would just take pictures of the hour meter showing "7", keep an eye on it, and if it does anything else that is strange I'll take it back to the dealer to be fixed under warranty. Thx in advance for your thoughts and input!

Wow... I believe you I just bought mine a couple of months ago, and I also have been watching my hours religiously... That is weird!

Sure, I remember your replies and the writeup of your boat (which looking back is one of the reasons I decided on the Speester 150 instead of going for an older boat!). I'm sure you'll be out there having some fun this summer. You have the 155HP version, right? I really do think that boat would have PLENTY of power and speed, and longer term you can probably drive that sucker for 20 years as long as you keep the oil changed. I love my boat but I don't think a few extra MPH on the top end will be used much by me ... if there are any waves OR if my wife is in the boat, I'm not going to be going much over 45 to 50 tops.

Just to be sure that it wasn't due some odd way I was viewing the screen from an angle, I hopped in the boat last night and turned the power on. Plain as day - "7" is on the hour meter. If it never happens again, fine, but it goes to show that it is a good idea to keep an eye on the hours just in case it suddenly blanks out or resets. I did find an old posting elsewhere about a Seadoo PWC where the hours jumped from around 150 to 770! Again, I absolutely plan on keeping the boat for many years, but I would hate to be the guy selling the boat someday "well I know the hours say it is 770, but honest, it only has around 100 hours!"

I have a 2012 210SE that did the same thing. At 11hrs I took it to the dealership and when I get it back it read 7hrs. I called the dealer and he sent a service bulletin request to Seadoo. We didn't get much of a response from them on this. I kept a close eye on it and the hours started going up and down on their own. It would go up to 12hrs and then I would turn the boat off and restart it and it would read 9hrs. I brought this up with the dealer and they contacted Seadoo. Seadoo claims they have never heard of this problem and to keep an eye on it. When the season comes back around I am going to start a photo log as proof to see what they will do about it. Thats the only complaint I would have about the boat.

Wow, thx hound_dog for sharing that info. That really seems like a bizarre problem to have ... must be some software bug, but that is a really strange one. I'll just make sure to keep a "manual" log of my hours, and is a good idea to do some photos. As long as it doesn't impact the performance of the boat or leave me stranded, then I guess it isn't a big deal. But that sure is good to know for people who are shopping for used boats ... glad I bought mine new and I KNOW how many hours are on it! Will keep this thread updated if I keep having this issue.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I used to own a 2007 Speedster 150 and I lost about 20-30 hours after taking it to my dealer. Of course I was upset and called the dealer but I was told that this sometimes happens when they hook the boat up to the computer. I didn't buy it but I never saw the hours change unexpectedly again.

Hi guys I also have a issue with my hours meter My 2007 seadoo gti is stuck between 80 and 81 hours. It had been at 80 for a whole then moved to 81 and then back to 80. Any ideas?? Thank you

Weird! Obviously there is some bug in the firmware that runs the hour meter. Mine has been working correctly since my original issue, but will post more info if it acts up again (and at that point I will be taking it to the shop to have it fixed under warranty). Good luck!
