I am the new owner of a 97 speedster. The speedometer has stopped working, I checked the wiring at the back of the boat (sending unit?) it appears that everything is there. The speed sensor (paddle wheel) looks OK. The wiring at the speed sensor looks like its connected, followed wire to where it goes though hull, it does not look broken. Followed wire off back of gauge as far as I could, looks complete. I also checked gauge fuse located in big electrical box in engine compartment, it was good. Both tachometers work, the fuel gauge does not. Any suggestions or test procedures would be greatly appreiciated . Thanks

One of the best purchases I made for the boat was a GPS Speedometer. The cable going to my "measuring" wheel was damaged and I had patched it enough times. Not a fix to the issue you are having, but it provides great accurate service and you don't have to rely on the external speed wheel anymore.

One thing to check...The wheel should spin freely...

That sounds interesting. Is a gauge that can be mounted in the dash in place of the stock gauge? If so were you able to tie into the existing power for that gauge? Thanks for the reply

There are a few power cables that have switched power behind the dash. One of them goes to the fuel gauge in mine.

The hall effect sensor generally go bad in the older boats. Its in the potted silicone right where the paddle wheel is.
I fixed mine, and cost about $5.
First you want to test that the paddle wheel is the faulty component.(Manual)
If you are technically minded and can solder you should give it ago.
Do a search for Seadoo hall effect paddle wheel sensor repair.
Yes you can replace with the candopro GPS unit for About $120 from memory.
