Ok here's the deal. my 98 Sportster 1800 speedo didn't work.
I suspected the paddle wheel from reading previous posts everywhere and found one cheap on eBay like the manual called for - 3 wire. So I took a chance and bought it. So today I pulled the old one out and...it's two wire. Now what?
3 Wire:
Purple/Yellow
Black
Blue/Purple
2 Wire:
Purple/Yellow
Black/Orange
According to the manual the black is ground. So I'm tempted to hook purple/yellow to purple/yellow, and the black/orange to the blue/purple and see what happens. If that doesn't work, the only thing left would be to hook the black to ground and see if it works then. If not...I'm hosed it seems even though I have what the manual calls for. Bottom line is it's built different than the manual.
