sorry new to all this...carb rebuild

I am working on a 96 gtx for my nephews, the boat is falling on its face when you get to around 35-40mph. I come from auto background, and am pretty confident it is running out of fuel. Appears to need the carbs redone from what i have read on the net. Where can I find directions for rebuild, or am I totally off on my dio, i maybe posting at the wrong place! Thanks all

I am not an expert on this, but from one thing that i read consistently on here is to check the fuel lines and see if you have grey ones. If you do, replace them with standard black fuel lines. I am sure that someone will chime in with more of an explanation.

If the ski still has the Gray Fuel Lines, I would replace them. As for the carbs, they have small internal filters which get clogged pretty easy. I just rebuilt my carbs and those filters were completely clogged. I would also just do a fuel rebuild on the carbs while you have them off and apart to check the filters. Clean out the jets and remove the high & low needles to clean them out.

Change the fuel filter, new plugs and clean out the fuel selector valve. I did all this and my ski runs like new now.

I have the grey lines, am currently in the middle of replacing them while the carbs are off. I did however last fall clean the internal filters, which were really not that dirty. I have read that they have a pulse pump on the side of the one carb.. I bought mikuni brand rebuild kits, so is everything i need in that kit for sure. I have been checking for some good directions/pics of a rebuild and am coming up with nothing. I would really like to have this thing fixed for the kids for the weekend. thanks everyone in advance

is there a filter at the bottom of the pickup in the tank? Maybe I should pull that and check?

There is a filter on the end of the baffel in the tank. I guess you could check that also.

Just got done replacing the grey lines in ours. Filters in the carbs where toast and had to buy new ones. Cleaning them didn't help much.

what issues was yours giving you? I just talked to a guy at work, that says you cant rebuild the carbs without a pop off tester, so now i may need that! I cant win

I rebuilt my carbs and just put the stock springs back in there without doing a pop off test and the ski runs mint after some fine tuning.

It isn't a problem. I just got done with mine. It runs great now. I pulled the carbs and put new jets and cleaned the filters inside. I had to do some tuning on them. The hi speed needles were off. Now they are spot on. I had to set idle and low speed needles. Go get and impact screwdriver for the carbs. Trust me on this. The screws are hard to find. Do you have RAVE valves in yours? May need to clean them if you do?

anyone ever have issues with pickup in tank being clogged, worth trying to remove and clean. Or should i say is it possible to lift out without moving the tank?

Yes you can remove the baffle from the tank without removing the whole tank. There is a small mesh filter in the bottom that you can pop off to clean if dirty

FIXED, no power lose! We were riding it today, still having some issues with establishing a decent idle. We are going to work that out, thanks everyone!
