Shrink Wrap?

Looking to store the boat at a local dealership over the winter.
The price for the parking space is reasonable, comparable to local self-storage places.
I would rather put the boat at the dealer than a public storage lot, it should be more safe there.

The catch is that the dealer requires all stored boats to be shrink wrapped. It will cost close to $300.

Is there really an advantage to the shrink wrap? Whats the big deal?

Wrap cloth on it first.Shrink wrap plastic will leave marks on the gelcoat.it seems like a strange request.Does the boat have a proper boat cover?

I have the original canvas cover, but it is not in the best shape. Water leaks through the canvas and it really does not stay on well anymore (it is 13 years old).

Shrink wrap is better than a canvas cover. $300 is a bit much, around here we pay $5-$7.50 per foot to wrap a boat.
Is the $300 from the storage place and it includes winter storage???????? If yes then it's a pretty good deal.

I personally don't like shrink wrap, not only does it leave marks like Cousin Criss said but it also traps moisture inside the boat. For 300.00 plus the rent for the space I would think you could find indoor storage.

Me and my buddies have had dozens of boats and skis shrink wrapped, not one had a mark on them afterwards.
If the tie down strap around the boat is tight and the plastic is shrunk correctly you should have no movement rubbing against the gelcoat.
Sometimes you can use the wrap for 2 years to save on cost, but you must be careful removing and reinstalling it.

The good guys will make at least 2 air vents in the wrap and make a "Vee tent" to make sure it's ventilated.

I wasn't talking about rubbing marks,I was talking about the plastic breaking down and leaving a permenant mark/stain on the gelcoat.I have repaired dozens of boats because of this problem.Cousin Lou is also correct about the trapped moisture.It can wreak havoc on the electricals in a few years time.Condensation buildup can create lots of moisture.Just my opinion

Wow, I've never heard of the plastic breaking down to leave marks. Maybe you guys use a different plastic than we do in Michigan.
But whatever, we both have to do what's best for our area.

I rent a garage from a lady up the street, she only has one car, I use the other side. I can get 3 pwc's , $25.00 a month. Check around.

From the hitch coupler to the reverse buckets is just over 21ft. Hard to find a car garage that big.

I put my boat cover on then because it isn't 100% waterproof I put a tarp over top of the cover and tie it down to the trailer and leave the boat sit outside. I hold the sides of the cover out with a couple fender bumpers for ventilation. First year I payed to store it at a boat storage place but then I figured why the hell am I paying them to park it outside when I can park it outside my own house for free. I do the same with my skis, put the seadoo covers on then a tarp over top.

I don't see the advantage of all the money for shrinkwrap

I got a price of $35 a month from the place that sold me the boat. Its about 20 miles out into the boonies whereas the $65 a month place was right in town. Quite a difference.

They do not require shrink wrap, but they do offer it at $10 a foot. I think I will skip the shrink wrap and leave them instructions to rebuild my carbs over the winter.
