Should I cut fuel to engine and run dry before storing?

Installed a manual petcock inline to shut off fuel flow to the carbs.

Use the boat about once a month. Should I turn the fuel off and allow engine to run dry? Or leave the fuel in the lines and carb?

My theory is to leave the fuel in the lines thinking that every time you run the fuel out a small amount is left behind and it dries up and over time will leave a deposit that will gum things up. For long term storage I always use sta bil in every internal engine. I never drain the lines or carbs or fuel injection systems. I do try to exercise all the engines at least every few months just to keep every thing lubed up. I try to drive the cars every year to renew the fuel and fuel stabilizer. So far it's worked for me but this is just my opinion and others may think differently. Rick

Yep... what he said.

Turn the fuel off... but don't run it dry. Every time you run the engine out of fuel... you are also running it out of oil. (not good) AND... as it goes lean... it's heating up. It's actually bad to run a 2-stroke out of fuel.

Also... since you are going for long periods of time in between runs... I would recommend keeping fuel stabilizer in the fuel... and a small amount of oil. (1/2oz per gal) The oil will help keep corrosion in check.

In my personal toys... I put 1oz per gal oil (and Marine Stay-Bil) in the last fill up of the season. That way... I know the oil and stabilizer is in the fuel system, and it will be ready to "Wake-up" next season.

Good advice DR. One other thing I do is put a tag on all my engines showing when the fuel was new, when the oil was changed and if stabilizer has been added.

Firts time boat owner and new to winter storage, so i appoligize if this stupid question..

Sta bil vs. Marine Sta bil other then the obvious one is for marine other is not. Will i be okay if i add normal sta bil to my 2002 challenger when i parkes it for the winter?

Thanks
