Hey there I was just wondering if any of you guys have went about redoing your seats on any of your jetski's. One of my ski's just has the back small seat part cracking really bad and I dont wanna pay $175 for a new seat cover so I thought I may do it on my own. Only thing is I dont know where to start on what kind of vinyl and where to get it. I know there are vinyls that stretch in every direction which i feel I would need considering I want it nice and tight. Anyways any help would be appreciated. When done I will post a pic. I have the maroon seats on a 2002 gtx but think black or marron would be a good look.

you want marine vinyl and preferrably one that is a 4 way stretch but in general any marine vinyl will do, just that some last longer.
just go to any boat canvas or vinyl place and they should have it in stock , look for remnants, i get remnants for like $5 a yard in a variety of colors... otherwise i think your looking at $20ish.

the real good stuff is called all-sport but their maroon sucks.. its more red than maroon.

IMO, if you can't find $5 remannts, and need to order $60 in vinyl... screw that plan and go to ebay and buy a $110 set (120 shipped) and they'll fit a LOT better. you don't need to dump $175 into a fancy one.

My wife just redid the seat on our '95 XP. We bought marine vinyl from allvinylfabrics.com. You can buy $1.00 samples to verify the color you want. We got two samples for about 3 bucks shipped. The fabric was about $20 total shipped. Is it perfect? No, but it's pretty dang close. There's one spot on the rear right where we couldn't get it stretched out enough and it has a little visible fold. And for the price difference, it's awesome.

I am thinking about ordering some of the marine vinyl flooring they have and see how it will do.

as a traction mat ? that would be worth seeing.

I just ordered a few samples to see how it looks. I'll let you know how it turns out.

How did this turn out for you? I am also looking for replacement vinyl. I bought a fitted cover for my 92 XP last year. While the quality of the vinyl was vary good, I did trim it all the way around, & it had no seams, so it was really just a pice of vinyl that I over paid for. Now, I am doing a GSX, so Thats going to take some compound stretching. The XP, was flat & simple. If the stitched ones fit better, I would be fine with spending more for the better fit.

Would like to hear more about what you guys did, & are doing.

There's a seller on ebay cally diyfabrics or something like that. They'll cut it to fit your seat for your model. It's marine grade and like $30ish for the XP. I plan to go that route. Looked at some pics they had on FB and the yellow looks close enough.

Go to joann fabrics, they have marine grade vinyl in many colors, black, yellow, navy, grey, white, i know they have those. Its $16.99 a yard you will need about 1 1/2 yards. Although every week in the paper you can get a 40% coupon. It applies to one item. So $15 for the fabric and $10 stainless steel staples and you got a new seat. The gsx and gsi in my picture album were done with joann fabric vinyl

Same thing I do- go right to Joann! I got enough to go the GSI seat and nylon strap for a handle for $11 after a 50% off coupon! Just curious though- where did you get the staples for $10? I went to Home Depot and got a 1000 pack for $19.xx. Sucks I have thousands and thousands of regular steel staples and had just about as many stainless at one time too (stepfather passed away in 97 and had a marine upholstery business) but wasted them all on stupid crap over the years- "speaker box? I'll use the stainless, they're better" lol.

I have to do mine too and I already did the upper part with vinyl from JoAnn Fabrics. Unfortunately I could not get it the way I wanted. I pulled and tucked and folded but still ended up with little folds around the edges. It will work but I am not happy with it. Does anyone have a pattern or is there one on the net somewhere for a nice tight fit. I noticed the Blacktip and Hydroturf ones are done in sections.

Yes I'm reviving this back from the dead as I'm getting ready to put my blacktip seat cover on. In the specs of those staples it says not for use in marine or saltwater applications. Those were the ones I was planning on getting.

I've seen those posted a couple times so I'm going to assume they work in the harbor freight stapler?

That one.

Yup any t-50 staple will work with the HF stapler. Monrel are better but more $$.

Sweet! Gonna run out today during work sometime and go to the local HF to try and pick one up. Why do they always seem to put HF's in the ghetto? It like that anywhere else, but NC?

'cause people on the upside of town are less likely to buy tools. They pay people to do fun stuff.

The one they just opened by me is in the suburbs, it is right by best buy, a mall and is right next to a toys r us. The next closest to me is in the ghetto though, it is 20 minutes from me, so I never really made it over there, now the new one is much closer and we go there all the time

I'd LOVE to have one near me. Where it's located though I'd imagine the land is hella cheap, and prolly just put it in an existing building that used to be something else. No one wants to move to those parts of town. Hell the people that live there hate it. lol

9 & John R is real close to you. I have one on telegraph/N of M59 @ Elizabeth Lk Rd. which is the closest to me.

Spim it's tough working on the ski when I'm down there every 4-5 months or so for only a week. :)
