hi guys,

new to this forum, i just baught a 1997 Seadoo XP 800cc, was cleaning the rave valves and noticed the left valve was all perfect and the right rave valve cloest to the drive shaft was missing the Exhuast piston - number 9 in the seadoo manual

just wanted to ask you guys as i dont really know too much about the rave system, but by missing this peice i take it therave system isnt working properly? it still had the spring in there but not the little plastic pison peice? would my engine be not running correctly without that peice?

probably a silly question but yeah hope someone can help.

thanks again

Zac

Yes, it won't work properly. Get a new one or PM minnetonka4me or his bro 99xpxxx for used parts. I'm not sure if used bellows are a good idea but they can tell you more. New ones are about $70-$80.
There are other people too who part out skis.

Your engine of course will work, but it is reducing the amount of exhaust being let out, therefore reducing power and top end. Also, I'm surprised you don't have an oil leak coming out around the housing/gasket.

They aren't that expensive, just get one from SBT. http://www.shopsbt.com/sea-1997-xp/46-107-08.html

OH and IMO and experience, buy 2 new valves and o-rings (number 3 and 4). Give yourself another 10+ years of not worrying about them. They are known for breaking and screwing things up.

ok guys my appologies both pistons are there, one just was an aftermarket one which looked different, however what is missing is the actual Spring on one of them! with this spring missing would it cause the ski to bog out? and not run right?

getting the carbs rebuilt this week, but my machanic found that spring missing

At low end it would have little affect as they would be down either was. Top end would be more affected as the one would not open and therefore have less top speed.
Bogging down tho.... Maybe on the top end but shouldn't matter on the bottom end.
What i experienced from my own rave valve problems. When fixed i got very little more top end. Was hoping for more of a difference, but not the case.
If you are having Bogging prob your carbs.
