Need some help with a Seadoo XP 96. Getting it ready for a new season and looking forward to riding this year. It's been in storage for the past two years but this year I am ready to run.

I bought a new battery, changed the plugs, and got it started and runs great. I let the ski stand for a few days and now the battery is dead. (4) days to be exact. Charged the battery again and it started back up. Put a voltage meter and it runs at about 14.2 v at around 5000rpms. When the ski is off the battery is at 13.1 volts. I am going to test it daily to see what's going on and why is losing charge?

Any ideas?

Thanks guys

Those batteries don't seem to last very long, despite how DAMNED expensive they are.

Mine started dying within a week of sitting after it was maybe 3-4 months old.

I now put a 2A trickle charger on it at all times when not in the water. It will hold a charge for the weekend, but after I am done on Sunday, I put the charger on it for the week.

During winter, I let it die, unless I hear about some good waves coming up, then I charge it overnight and take off on it.

Mine is brand new out of the box though? You don't think it's anything more then a so/so battery? I am using a Diehard I got from Sears. I hope it's nothing more then that, I would really be happy.

I honestly don't know. :confused::confused:

The batteries are small and have a reputation for needing to be replaced yearly.

I refuse to spend $80 for half a battery and swap it out after a year, so I keep recharging it with a trickle charger.

Is your battery a "PWC" battery? Mine is, and lasted without charge for about 3 or 4 months, then needed charging between uses. (My Challenger uses a full sized car battery, and does not need charged at all, but I do it after sitting for a month or more so it is nice and strong when I take it out.)

For about $20-25 I can buy the same sized battery but not "PWC" and made for riding lawnmowers and 4-wheelers and similar. I may try it and see if it works like yours. ie. it works, but needs a charge between uses anyway.

So, what model is your battery? I am interested to see if it is "PWC" specific or not... And how much did you pay for it?
