Hi

I tried to start my seadoo speedster 787 jet boat but there is a clicking sound when pressing the start button, I replace the starter motor about six months ago.

Typically a bad battery.
Aftermarket starters are junk if that’s what you used as a replacement.

Pull the spark plugs and make sure your engine isn’t seized or full of oil.

The engine is full of oil and it all squirted out I have put a oil tap on the pipe running down to the sump to stop this filling up with water I noticed also the starter motor was rusted up This was a brand-new aftermarket starter motor which I have replaced it with a original starter motor. Not sure why this was so rusted it is only about a year old I have had the boat sitting for about a year

Rusted because the aftermarket starters are absolute garbage.

I assume you have the valve on the oil line to prevent oil flooding even though you said water?

Yes sorry it is on the oil. Is the aftermarket starter motors just bad quality steel is this the cause it is rusted do you think I am quite shocked to be honest

can you advise me why the aftermarket starter motors are junk, just curious,
Is it play break easy under continuous use or are they prone to rust due to Low quality metal used. The starter motor I did purchase is less than 12 months old and has completely rusted where this goes into the motor

Everything about them is junk, from the metal used, bearings, windings, brushes and armatures. There’s not a single part on them worth anything. They are inferior in every way. Even the end cap isn’t correct so you can’t use the factory rear support and they fall apart.

Not saying everything made in China is junk but all of these aftermarket copies are a very poor clone of the original.

Back onto the starter, is there any other logical reason why this would rust inside the engine when it is sealed with an O-ring is there something I should be looking at for the peering inside the motor please don’t get me wrong I hear you loud and clear about the type of metal thing that gets me is this has been in the water for 20 minutes since I’ve owned the new after maker starter motor. CM Marine are saying it is due to water ingress metal just doesn’t rust. Without water And they won’t cover it through 12 month warranty.

just want to have an understanding of these any think I should be looking at on the motor to cause water ingress as I have opened up the starter motor and there is rust inside it
