I'm new to the forum and have been reading some great Information from a lot of you, Thank You. Its scary how much some of you know about seadoo's.:o

I have not taken my seadoo's into a shop in three years (96 GTX and 2000 RX) they seem to run fine, exept for an occasional battery swap.

Is there some minor maintenance I should perform on them, or certain things I should be checking to make sure they stay running good.

I use them at Lake Mead NV about 3 times a year, and I live in So Cal so the weather is mild all year.

Thank You!

get the maintence book for it. Inspection should be done after every ride. check for leaking fuels system, water leaks, oil leaks, items in pump/impeller, condition of pump ring and impeller, check all water hoses, bildge pump, etc. etc. etc...

I like to flush my engine out after a day of riding, pull the plugs and inspect the tops of the pistones and cylinders. I then spary some wd in there to try and prevent any rust. I normally replace the plugs after 15 to 20 hours of riding. When changing plugs I also clean the factory fuel filter. I have an inline screen filter after this one and then the two in the carbs also but do not mess with those until the annual deal.

There is alot you can look for and lot you can do. The bigger things are keeping it oiled, keeping water out of the cylinders, and keeping the fuel system clean. This will insure a long life on the engine.

If something is not broke do not fix it. If it is broke, replace it :)

Good Info, Thanks

When I remove the spark plugs, do I need a Torgue wrench to tighten them? Or do I just make sure they are snug.

Everything he points out is valid, just a bit more like overkill. The Rotax engine is a really fine engine. Very durable and able to take a little abuse.

In my opinion, I don't think you need the maintenance book when you got the forum. You can aske questions here and you'll find answers. Now, if you decide you'd like to save several hundred dollars when it's time to replace your pumps wearing ring, then you should sign up for premium membership. With that subscription, you not only get the shop manual, you get expert advice on how to remove the impeller and wearing ring to replace it. We can do one on one if we have to.

The most important things to look after from year to year are, make sure you flush your engine after each ride (and do this by procedure), read your plugs a few times a seaon. When doing this, do this in two stages. To check the low speed jets and transition, ride the ski about 3 or 4k rpm for about 5 or 10 minutes. Pull the lanyard off without letting off the throttle. When you slow down well enough, pull the plugs and read them to see how your carbs are working. After doin this, ride the ski at wide open throttle for about 10 minutes. Repeat the steps above, without letting off the throttle, now read the plugs again. This will tell you how the ski runs on the main jets. Look at the bottom of this thread in my signature and you'll see a link to "snipes korner" and there, you'll find a post on spark plugs along with pictures of what your plugs should look like.

Spray your engine down liberally with WD-40 or Cosmoline. This is a water displacing protectant. It will keep your linkage free and help keep your moving parts from seizing up.

Grease your PTO hub at least once a season, preferably at the beginning of your riding season. Inspect and change your pump oil with a 75 weight synthetic polyolester oil every year.

If you suspect a loss of thrust, inspect and measure your wearing ring clearance. Get a pair of the long feeler gages and try and measure between the hub and wearing ring, anything greater than .40" is to much, replace the ring.

If your using the 787cc motor design, clean the RAVE valves once a year. Remove the water injector valve at the water box to make sure there is no sand grit clogging the small calibrated fitting.

Test your battery once a season for proper charging. With the ski running, put a multimeter on the battery terminal ends and you should be seeing anywhere from 13.5 go 14.5 vdc. If it's hitting 15 vdc, your rectifier is shot, replace it.

I guess that about covers your yearly maintenance. I'm sure there is something I'm forgetting.................

Wow, thats a lot to take in for someone who has never worked on seadoo's before.

When you say use WD-40 on the engine, where exactly do I spray it? Also where is the PTO Hub?

Maybe I do need the Maintenance Book. :ack:

you would spray wd 40 on the engine and other metal parts so they dont rust just a light coat will displace the moisture. the pto hub is located on the back of engine in rear of your ski usually covered by a plactic cover there is a grease zerk on it and you may have to spin the drive shaft to expose it.

Oil change in Spring?

I don't want to start another thread on this topic, but wondering what the requirements are on doing a 2nd oil change after winterization period?

I performed the oil change before the winter, and I know some suggest doing another change before the season starts since the oil has been sitting. But is this really necessary ? The SeaDoo was stored, covered in a garage since November. 2008 GTX 4tec, 155

Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks!
