hey guys and gals,
i bought my first jet ski:hurray:but it is in peices with no crank to be found:banghead:it is a 91 with the orange engine.i can,t find a good used crank and i don't want to buy a new one because i will be on the hunt for a bigger engine over the winter.i found a 94 650 crank and was wondering if it would be a direct fit or if i could possibly get that crank and the 650 jug maybe.i just want this engine till the winter comes so i can learn on a slower one before jumping on to something with power.
the other question is,i have one that was given to me with no title, registration,or motor so i was wondering if i used the bottom half of that beast and made my own top half and seat and nose if it would be considered homemade enough to get a title.i would asume it is from the late 80's and been sitting half it's life from the looks of it.
i am very mechanicaly inclined when it comes to cars and i fabricate and fiberglass regularly.just wanted to get away from cars for a while.
thanks a buunch any input will be great.
steve.
i live in illinois if that helps with the second question

I'm not 100% sure on this... but I think the first gen engines are different from the later engines. The reason I say this is, I've see internal parts that will spec out as "Yellow" or "White" engines even though it is basically the same part. (like seals, bearings, and starters)

The “Home Made” thing will depend on your state. If you don’t have to get an inspection for a homemade boat… then you will probably get away with it.
