It makes me sad to say those words considering I have owned nothing but seadoo boats. I started with a used speedster, then two used utopias. My last purchase was a brand new 2007 seadoo islandia. I bought it May 2007 and it was back in the shop within a week. I have had nothing but problems out of this boat. Within less than a year this brand new boat had a replaced water pump, three bilge pumps, 4 new batteries, and more. Everytime I went to take it out, it would not crank. The first year I had the boat it was in the shop over 6 months. The last time I took it out (4th of July) it wouldn't crank the second year in a row on this holiday. They yet again, replaced the bilge pump, now with a larger one. I get the boat back, dumped in the water, just me, my two year old, and a friend who knows nothing about boating. The check engine late, temp light, and warning beep all started going off before I got out of the no wake zone. I open the engine compartment and all I see is smoke and things melted. Turns out this time the technician at the dealership (who they say is their best) forgot to hook the exhaust hoses back up. So I am on the water with my daughter in a boat overheating. Not only do I now not have confidence in the safety of my boat for my family, but I don't trust the people responsible for fixing it. After battling with the dealership and manufacturer they were willing to trade me the dealership 07 islandia demo for mine. I had the opportunity to take it out over a few weekends before making my final decision. I was shocked to see the condition in which this boat was maintained. Let's just say it was really banged up and filthy. With that said I would rather have a boat the looks bad and runs safely then a polished terd. When I took this boat out, I made it out of the no wake zone, gave it some throttle, and the right engine died and would not crank again. It just clicked. This boat has been at the dealership a little over a week, lake tested three times, and they still do not know what is wrong with it. I don't want this boat either. At this point, I just want them to give me what I owe on it and be done. Does anyone have any advice for me? What is the likelihood that I could just get my money? Do I need to involve a lawyer, civil suit, media? I really can't afford to throw$40,000 away. I don't like making payments on a brand new boat that want work.

man talk about some bad luck. sorry cant help you but I would be madly pissed if it happened to me...

I think its the dealer myself.

Seriously......to have that many problems and it not be the dealers fault. No other excuse.

Is there such thing as a 'lemon law' for boats in your state? I know there is for cars. I guess they did replace the boat with a different one, but now that one isn't running either.

You best bet may be to get in contact with an attorney and find out what legal options you have. Knowing that you can approach Sea-doo from an informed standpoint.

VERY sorry to hear of your bad experiance. My god, what a nightmare.

I think you really doo have some problems. And that the dealer could be the problem.

Doo you have any mechanic friends, that can look into your issues, and provide a second opinion?

I know that if I had been through the wringer like that, I'd be broke!:agree:

Unfortunately there is no lemon law on boats in my state. It would fall under a federal lemon law which encompasses anything from an ipod to an RV. It also only compensates for depreciation cost. I have been in contact with a firm. I was hoping I wouldn't have to take it that far. Y me!:ack:

Dealership verses Manafacturer?.....

I think, the dealership is not qualified to assemble the final components of this boat, much less, work on the engines. The problems seem to lie solely on this dealership. As you stated, you spent $40k for what? To watch it sit in your drive way.

I hope you've got all the service records and can get sworn statements from all that was involved, that is willing to help.

I don't know how much it will do, but I'd also play into the hands of the Seadoo manafacturer. They don't want their boats to get a bad name, so if you were able to get hold of someone in the higher ups of the company, tell them your problem, get them on your side, tell them how un-qualified the people are that is working on your boat, they may do more to help you get this worked out. That Seadoo dealership is privately owned, but a part of Seadoo through franchise. So, they will have a lot of pull with the dealership. That would be my mode of attack. What ever you do, make no threats...........they only anger the people your looking to solicit help from. If you want to take it to the media, then take it. Don't tell the dealership your going to do it. All publications have editorials, that you may be able to write to and have it published. Then, I bet that dealership would do more to help you out. They'd probably call you!.......

What ever you do, I think your upset enough over this to make sound decisions. No one wants to hire an attorney, but this may be a necessity. I think a suit on "mis-representation", not just against the dealership, but Seadoo, might make some heads turn. I think, in the statement, "mis-representation", you can atest that you saw the video of this boat on the Seadoo website and was totally in awe with that performance that you bought one...........but haven't been able to even get it through the break in hours...............Fight for your right to be treated fairly as a customer. Tell the dealer, you want your money back...........

I hate to see your taste for Seadoo be soured by this obvious, "I don't care now, I got my money from you" type dealership but remember, they all are not like this one.

I wish you the best and hope the outcome of this obivous "screwing" comes out in your favor. I just hate to hear stories like this..........

You want to switch to yamaha? I like the looks of there boats but after hear about how much troble the couple down the street from me are having with there's id think twice, there on thier 3rd boat mind you the dealer has be good to them by replaceing them. there has twin engines and each boat theyve had engine problems, the first one BLEW UP!!!!

Most dealers are rip off artists, I baught a jeep from the dealer had 20k on it, 2 days later the motor blew up, and idk there are laws but basacaly they dont mean much there are lots of loop holes that make it imposible to get anywhere...

I understand your problems, i be though the same thing with my 08 230 wake. to the point that I found the head of public realtions and emiled her the whole blog on my boat. I got a call from her and she called the head of technical and quailty control and had him call my dealer. Now my dealer has bent over backwards to help me, even driving a 100 one way to get my boat.
The dealer has called me twice now to make arrangements to come get my boat again, but we are waiting to see if we have some warm days to get back out one last time.
If you want to Private message me I will give you her eamil address.
