Why not keep both?

Honestly, I dont know alot about the Yamaha's, except that my dads 701 is much easier to diagnose and seems to have less moving parts on it than my 96 GSX. If it was me, I would probably keep the Yamaha, they seem to be easier to work on and have less quirks, at least that is how i feel. This is coming from the owner of that GSX keep in mind, but it could also be because mine has given me so many problems. And also, i think that 800 yami you got there is one of the best looking skis on the water, always wanted one. If you get the Yami, get rid of the oil injection tho. I have a yamaha parts guy and he says they are not near as reliable as the seadoo ones.
The Yami is a nice looking ski. Really like the water shooting out the back. But it has its issues probably more so than the GSX. The powervalves tend to break and ruin the engine. Oil lines and carbs can be problematic as well. Regardless I will fix these problems even if I don't keep it.
1. Store it at a friends.
2. My vote is for the GSX on the simple fact of looks. That Yammie is a YACHT and the GSX has a much sexier eye appeal. I'd rather be broke down on a Doo then caught riding a Yamaha on the water.

Which one did you like better? I read about the rideplate as well. But I won't change that unless I decide to keep it.

Sometimes. Lol that's all I hear! 23 years later all I say now is yup yes yea ok whatever you want. Then a week or two later. I say what no uh Anh I didn't agree to that I didn't say yes. I don't know what your talking about. Hey she thinks I'm getting old crazy all timers whatever it works for me lol
I liked the gsx way better. I couldn't get rid of the gp fast enough. I never rode a ski that aggravated me like the gp did.
Thanks for all the input. I am leaning toward keeping the GSX, have all winter to decide. I ran a GS last summer and loved it, no problems at all. I am thinking the GSX will be kinda the same, but with more power.
My wife is pretty cool with my toys. Now if she wanted the Yami then I could keep both. But no point in having two skis, and a boat as well. Just need to figure out which is the best one.
Now if only I could get that bug off my screen.......

Lol that bug drives me nuts. Every time I see it I think my dogs got fleas somewhere. My wife puts up with my toys also I have a boat and 3 jet skis. Lol I'm trying see what I can get away with before see cuts me off. Lol
The GP was a fast ski in its day...The GSX isnt gonna be as race like.

I've owned both, and although the GP looked better, IMO it rode like crap, slow out of the hole, no mid range, no top end, and at all speeds except idle it porpoised like crazy, (fixable) it really was nothing more than a nice family cruising ski. and parts are extremely expensive for the 800's, they didn't make that many, and the same chit breaks every time so the parts you want are never cheap. (I sold mine for $200 less than I paid for it and only had it for 2 months, i was happy to get rid of the dam thing for a small loss)
I liked two things about the GP, it looks nice, and it had plenty of storage.
if it was a yami 701 i'd feel differently, same issues as the 800 as far as speed and such, but much easier to work on and parts are cheap and plentiful, but I think the biggest hull they put the 700's in was the XL models. I have owned the 700 and 760 XL's and I liked both for what they were, and my ride buddies liked me having it since they could each pack about 15 lbs of extra crap for me to put in the storage bins and it was easy to strap gas on the back too.

Thanks for all the info. After working on the Yamaha it was an easy decision. I hate that piece of junk. I can pull a Seadoo motor faster than what it takes to pull the exhaust off the Yamaha. The GSX is a keeper. Plus the Yamaha forums aren't that good. This one is much better.
