Because it's one grasshopper and one leg (which is a half because there are two legs)
So the assumption is that if one and one half chickens can lay one and one half eggs in one and one half days that one and one half grasshoppers can kick all of the seeds out of one and one half cucumbers in one and one half days

One other question - is it one half of a grasshopper since he is incapacitated (one leg is wooden) or is it one and one half grasshoppers since he has two good legs + one wooden leg ???
I've been able to narrow it down to the following possibilities:
6 hours; because milk is white
2 weeks; because the sun is hot
5 seconds; because people have eyes
3 days; because ice cream has no bones
