Looking at a freshwater 2005 Seadoo Rxt 215 today, anything in particular I should check? Has 35 hrs on it looks fairly new, guy wants 5k for it.
Anyone have any experience with this seadoo? I know they have supercharger issues with the ceramic washers from what I read.
I asked the guy about the top speed of the ski and he said he thinks 55, and that you are supposed to have the dealer unlock more power.
Ski is 2.5 hr away from me, I'd hate to get there to realize it needs a SC rebuild.
What do yall think?

55 is too slow. My 185hp GTX did 62. I'd check the oil, make sure it's a golden brown. Check that you get the two happy chirps when you put the key on. It should rev up very quick, very peppy. If the Gauge cluster has the two needles, check the little center screen for a dark ring. That's an indication the polarizer screen is going out (fixable, but annoying). If it's the nicer style display, make sure it's not cracking or getting those polarizer ring deterioration. Also, moisture in those gauges is a sign of trouble. I always get underneath and shine a light into the pump tunnel to check the wear ring and leading edges on the impeller. They should be straight with little to no nicks in them. The wear ring should also be pretty tight around the impeller and not be too gouged up. 05's had hollow exhaust valves which were prone to breaking off and destroying the motor. They also needed a supercharger rebuild to replace the ceramic washers. That SC kit is $300 in parts alone. Valves another $250 or so. Unless it's IMPECABBLY clean, and comes with a nice cover and nice trailer, I'd say 5k is a bit high for a 15yo ski. Keep in mind, that SC rebuild will run you about $500 if you send it off and replacing valves is even more. You might get lucky, but you might be like the numerous stories of valve failure.

The 55 top speed and dealer unlocking more power is not true. The ski comes with two keys. Fast and slow. But the slow key goes far less than 55. We bought ours new in 07 and it went 68 on the first run (obv a bad idea) If that’s truly the top speed then theirs a problem. Also that’s very low hours, almost too low for a 15 year old jet ski.
just my opinions, be careful. Sure theirs some very good deals out there and sometimes you can get lucky, but for sure some odd things there.
