I bought a 95 spi and was going thru it and seen that the rubber boot is missing with the oetiker clamps that go on the flywheel where the drive shaft enters it. I know theres a zerk fitting there also. I will replace it but wanted to ask how neccessary is it that this boot is there? As you know i have to pull the pump to get driveshaft back far enough to get the boot on. If its absolutly necessary ill do it but if not well then i wont mess with it.

Thanks,
Chris

Absolutely necessary. Once you pump grease in the zerk it will come right out the splines. That boot will retain the grease and also act as a seal to push the grease against the driveshaft to push it backwards. Sort pre-loading it to the pump.

I figured it was. I ordered it so ill put it on. Just amazing what some people do to there machines. They just dont take care of them like they should.
