Rope got tangled up in my Sea-Doo drive shaft

Hello everyone.

Last weekend, I did something that I didn't expect to happen. The wake boarding rope was under the jet ski when I clicked the start button, and so it was pulled into where the water is pulled in, and was tangled up around the drive shaft. What exactly happened was that the engine started up for about half a second and shut off. I am concerned to why it shut off so fast. Could it be a fuse or something? So what we did, we pulled the sea-doo to the shore and lifted one side of it up, and one of us with small hands untangled all the rope out with out any tools. I noticed that this plastic piece with a tiny propeller which is located directly to the left of the rear jet had broken off. It looks like the small propeller thing has to do with calculating the speed on the speed gage, but not sure. So we thought, now that we have untangled the rope, we can try starting it. We put the key on, and heard the normal beep that all sea-doos make, and then clicked the start button, but then all the gauges turned off and it pretty much shut down. We didn't even here the engine start, it all shut off. and this time it was not making the beep sound either. So now, I have a feeling that I need to check the fuse. But before that I know I have to take out the spark plugs and make sure there is no water in the engine and stuff.

I have only had this Sea-Doo for about a month, so I don't know what I really should do. I would really appreciate any tips or suggestions. I can give you any other info if you need it.

Thanks to all.

You probably blew the 15A fuse labelled battery on the MPEM. It looks like a black box and is located in the engine compartment. Should be mounted to the wall. Pull the fuse cover off and check your fuses.

so why do you think it was the fuse. do i need to open the spark plugs to see if there is water in the engine and stuff?

any other tips?

can't hurt to check. once plugs are out, motor should turn by hand. there may still be a hunk of rope stopping it from turning.

well, we untangled all the rope out. We didn't have to cut any of it or anything, so I don't think there is any rope in it. Some guy told me I should take the spark plugs out to check to see if there is any water in the engine or something?

When I tangled the rope in mine, the engine ran a while, died, and when I tried to restart there was such a drag on the battery that all the warning lights lit, but then I got a beeeeeep. After I got all the rope out, including what was inside the driveshaft tube, that engine fired right up.
I agree with the fuse, or a corroded connection. With the amp draw that a locked engine gives, either is possible.
