Revving out of control after new rebuild installation...Help!

Thanks is advance!! Bottom line to simplify it...I heard air leak will cause this I shouldn't have any of those that I know of... I checked the carbs, looked inside with a mirror and there closed like they should be at idle...even after I cut the gas off and let it run out I tried to start it wondering where all this energy is coming from and still it runs and tries to go wide open every time, tries to keep running after you pull the key and try to stop it for a few seconds!!! I can't keep doing because it's not the way I wanted to break in my engine and when the throttle is not wide open but the engine is well you know idle oil from the oil pump but engine going crazy is very bad!:ack:

I started it up on the trailer with plenty of oil in the gas put a little in the plug holes and the injection for extra on the first start...well it starting revving out of control after it finnally started, I think too much oil kept it from sparking and flooded the crankcase with fuel.

Question, can that cause a run away like that, burning the fuel because after a few tries I couldn't keep letting my new engine do this I got an $80 gallon of 2 stroke break in oil and was going to break it in very well, now it's running out of control wont idle I have rebuilt the carbs and I installed the engine after I got it rebuilt all new gaskets done right. Before I got water in the engine from a head gasket I rebuilt the carbs and it was running awesome idling good and everything.

This is the first time I started it so I am not sure if it's the flooded crankcase if that can even make that happen...or if it has to do with all the work done by the guys that rebuilt it or me installing it.

The only way it will do that after you pull the key...is Dieseling..there must be a air leak somewhere.. Did you pull the choke when this happened?

Yes I did it slowly stopped where could it be, the air leak, rebuilt by full bore and I used all new gaskets made sure all was tight what's the most likely place seems like it would have to be a huge leak to do that.

It's the 951 seadoo 2 stroke with a pulse line that goes on the engine I was almost sure right next to that was the vacuum line to the right of the pulse line on the side of the crankcase I put the vacuum line there, I just didn't remember if that was right or not when I did it other than that all should be like it was.

Same thing happened to me with my 951. Read through my thread..

Ok I will thanks man this is a picture of the crankcase like i was talking about i couldn't remember which went where but the carb I'm sure went on the left and the vacuum line on the right because of there location to the carbs and there the vacuum line was, I cut it off right away but i did it 8-10 times starting trying to figure out what was going on I don't think I did any damage yet but don't want to either.

They run away because they are too lean for the amount of fuel being put into the motor. They get too much air, and not enough fuel. 951 engines will run away even without air leaks or lean condition. They will run away if the idle speed is set too high. You must have slack in the throttle cable at the idle position, and to set the on-hose idle speed to 2800 rpm, 1400 or so in the water.

Thanks

I'll be able to get it to the river on a trailer and see what I can find out too afraid to start on land again lol, thanks for the info. I'll back the low speed on the carbs off and see how it runs.

Now that you guys mention it...this did happen after I adjusted the idle up while I was in the water. Wonder if the combination of that, and turning my fuel off when I got to the dock caused mine to do that.

Well...it works in the water fine

Just thought I would update this, I got a chance to try it in the water and it runs awesome. I haven't even took it off the trailer but before on land it wouldn't do anything but rev like a bat out of hell. It ran nice I hit the gas a few times rpm's went up then back to idle like it should did that for about 10 minutes. The idle screw is all the way out so it's not that but something makes it idle a little faster than it should so out of the water that is out of control. I know I have too much oil in the gas and the injection going too, I wanted extra protection for break in but could the oil displace the fuel and cause the problem I wonder. I'm going to run the tank out in the water and see what happens with normal oil from the injection, thanks for all the info!

Regardless if it's good in the water I would still check the slack on the throttle. I had that once on a 2000 rx and the idle rpm in water was 2400 rpm. Way to high and all it was was that the throttle cable was too tight.

Thanks, yeah I checked that first and had a light and mirror looking down in the carbs when it was going crazy and they we're closed at idle posistion, idle screw all the way out, cable was free and everything, I checked for air leaks and found none. Thanks for the info!

Have you checked the valve off the vacuum line that is located on the engine block near pulse line? Could it be melted internally? I had to change one once that had the same symptoms.

Haven't checked that

Nope haven't checked that I made sure the line was still on the engine but I need to check that, thanks.
