Resonator bypass question

I recently purchased a 2005 sportster. I have continued to have problems with the exhaust system. More specifically, the rubber hose attached to the proximal side of the resonator has come off twice while in the water (upon starting the engine). The clamps were tight, but continued to loosen throughout the weekend. I have taken everything apart (distal to the muffler) and degreased it in order to ensure a tight fit. However, I continue to have problems. My question is whether or not I can remove the plastic resonator and replace it with a 8" aluminum pipe (the pipe appears to be designed for this purpose)? I am unable to find anything regarding the effects this will have on the cooling process and the backpressure on the exhaust/engine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can replace with aluminum or stainless steel pipe, but expect your boat to be much louder. It will run fine but there is definitely an increase in the drone at 5-10 mph.

I actually went back to the plastic resonator simply for the noise. My suggestion would be to buy a new resonator and try that...perhaps the plastic has a small crack that you cannot see that is causing it to deform near the clamp. I also put two clamps and some gasket sealer on it as well.

I know with mine there is a lip on the attachment for the resonator box and if you don't put the clamps right at the end of the hose they will be on the lip and it will come off.
