i just bought 2 seadoos, a 99 GTX limited and a 98 GTX limited, and im wondering how to go about replacing the old fuel lines on both? also, where can i get what i need to do this and how much will everything cost? thank you

There are 100's of threads on here about changing fuel lines. Just go to an autoparts store, you'll need about 20 stainless steel hose clamps, 20 ft of 1/4'' ID fuel line. Make sure to clean or replace the fuel selector and the inline fuel/water separator. Might as well clean the tank baffle as well. Take one old hose off at a time, measure it, cut a new piece, install, and repeat. Just take your time, and remember which fuel lines go where on the fuel selector valve.

i think you need both 5/16 line, and some 1/4 (not just 1/4) but i'm not positive, i don't mess with 951's much, but when I do.. 5/16 is involved.
you may need some of both, somebody should chime in thats done this before on those models.

and a gtx is a big hull, you might need a tad more than 20ft, if its all 5/16.

auto parts store will rape you, but frankly its still practical to buy local vs ordering online & shipping etc...
i think the last time I paid retail it was like $1.30 a footish) I buy spools of 25 feet wholesale from a local guy for under .80.

one more thing, fuel filter probably a good idea, i'm assuming your replacing grey tempo lines not black lines ?

if no, you may not need to change anything at all.

if yes, they are grey, pretty dam good chance the carb filters are all gummed up as well.

the 787s and 951s use a mix of 1/4" and 5/16" fuel line, you'll need to take a look at what you have where before you buy, you probably won't need 20 feet of 1/4", and you'll need a good amount of 5/16". i'd start with 10 or 12ft of each per ski and be prepared to run out and get more if need be. do the long runs first, so you're not having to go buy 4ft extra because you don't have a single piece long enough.

my 97 787 is 1/4 to just past the water separator, i believe that the 951 is 8mm (5/16" my mistake) either completely or from the fuel valve on to the motor. it would make sense that it might be all 5/16"

exactly... like I said I'm not sure of the length of if there is any 1/4 involved, i just want to point out that the answer is NOT to go out and buy 40ft of 1/4 and a bunch of clamps. you'll be busting knuckles trying to shove that stuff on there.

(and for the record, i have a 98 gtxl in the dam back yard, but its raining, the motor is locked, and it smells bad inside the hull, so i'm not going out there to check)

Thought it was the 787, which as stated is 1/4. sorry for the missunderstanding

any time you see the word "limited" or a capital L in the description, its 951.

just start with a spool of 5/16 and 12 ft of 1/4 maybe and go from there :)

or poke around the ski and see if you can figure out which is which

on my 2000 RX Most of it was 8MM, the return line was 6.4 MM plus alittle bit of 6.4MM hear and there, 20 ' of 8MM and 10' of 6.4MM is a good starting point for one ski as your left over will be used for the other then you can figure out how much you will need for the other ski, but getting the right size is hard to come by at times as long as its within 1MM differance in size, you will be fine.

Check your local hardware store for the fuel line. I bought a 25 foot roll of 1/4" (because I only needed 1/4") for less than $14. Then went to the Advanced Auto near me for the clamps. They only had packages of 4 or 5 on display for almost $3 each. I asked if they had any larger quantities available so the guy came out with boxes of 10 for $0.99 each. Add a $4 fuel filter and I replaced my fuel line and added a filter for less than $20.

Yeah that's another top tip, ask for the clamps that the commercial counter sells, usually you can get a box of 10 for like a dollar more than the 2-packs.

Ive got a 98GTXL that I just recently bought. Been doing right much work inside since its purchase. My fuel lines have been replaced but I have had them off cleaning everything. I can't tell you lengths but if I remember correctly the only lines that are 1/4 are the vent off the tank, and the return from the carbs. I know both lines from the sender are 5/16(8mm) and the line running from the filter to the carb is a 5/16. I believe the pulse is 5/16 also.
