Repairing temp sensor on GTI LE

I am a newbie with a dumb problem.

I broke off the wire that connects to the temp sensor on my 2003 GTI LE while changing the back sparkplug (I know, real smart!). It sliced off at the top of the sensor. The wire connector on the end of the wire to the sensor looks to be damaged as well.

What is the best way to fix this? I plan on replacing the sensor, but will I need to splice a new wire in so that I can get an undamaged connector as well? That would seem kind of tricky.

Appreciate any help.

one possibility is get old-style temp sensor that just takes a spade terminal. i don't think they changed anything but the wire end. somebody else correct me if i am wrong.

I would just replace the temp sensor with the correct one. Here is the part number 278000965. Price at "www.babbittsonline.com " is $28.50. Try Radio for the connector end and solder / shrink wrap it on the existing wire that's left.

Finally got the part in and installed. The connector did not appear to be damaged, as I had feared, so it clipped right on.

Of course, now I am having trouble starting it. I started a new thread on that topic. Should be done here.

Thanks for the advice.
