TL/DR: Two head bolts broke while removing. I can’t get them out (even with threading the top and using nuts) What would you recommend doing.
About a year ago I starting fixing this 96 xp (787). I did everything I needed to get it running (new plugs, rebuilt carbs, replaced fuel lines, etc) and when I ran it with water it had a leak between the pto jacket and the head.
I worked on taking the head off and got 10/12 out but the last two broke just under the shoulder with very little force. I slowly worked the head up and off so I have over an inch of the bolt exposed. I used a die to tread it to see if I can some nuts and a jam nut to back it of (I put a decent force on it but the nuts moved to much on the bolt for comfort but it didn’t strip anything).
I am now thinking weld the nuts to the bolt after screwing them on. (This is probably the best way but my welder friends said tig would be the best but then I would need to spend a good amount for that.
What would you guys recommend doing. Thank you in advance
