I have a 97 GTI and I am in process of cleaning it up to paint. I'm moving from the yellow and white to Red, Black and White. I am a little stuck on how to remove the mirror glass from the housing. I would prefer to be able to paint inside the housing as well as the outside and leave no trace of yellow.

Anyone have any instructions on how I can do this? Internet and forum searches haven't turned up much. Well, there was one on PWCToday but since I wasn't registered I couldn't see the pictures. :(

Why dont you just register it takes like two seconds. If someone already has a good How To over there and your ski runs fine just register and look at the pics. Registering on about any forum takes about 2 seconds

Pretty sure you can't.
The mirrror is stuck to inside of housing that's hiding the two screws underneath it.

When I had to replace a broken mirror, it was glued to the housing, which was in turn screwed to the inside of the
whole shebang so I do not think you can.. The replacement mirror was $8 IIRC at a glass shop....

Note: "shebang" is a technical term used by us weekend warriors.

Thanks though. I guess I'll tape around it and do the best I can. I was hoping it was like my truck, where you slide a screwdriver in some place to depress a tab and off it pops.

I thought shebang was a technical term Gomer, down at Wally's fillin station used.

I did register but you have to wait for a moderator to approve you even after you verify your email.

I wasn't aware of that, I'll check and see if there's anything wrong with your account.

I think Gomer's response was shez-zam...or something similar.

***EDIT***
Pyle is a good-natured, naïve single man from Mayberry, North Carolina. The only apparent employee at Wally's Filling Station, he initially lived there in a back room. Wide-eyed and slack jawed, he usually wore a service station uniform and a baseball cap with an upturned bill; a handkerchief dangled from his back pocket. He initially displayed scant knowledge of automotive mechanics: in "The Great Filling Station Robbery", for example, he thought a carburetor was a hood ornament. However, he learned over time, and in other episodes he was able to diagnose mechanical problems for the average lay person.

Like his cousin Goober, Gomer provided comic relief, awestruck by the simplest of things, resulting in the exclamation of his catchphrases, "Shazam!", "G-o-l-l-y", "Sur-prise, sur-prise, sur-prise!", and "shame, shame, shame!", as appropriate.
