The shock was missing from my GTX when I bought it. Trying to figure out how to install. Do I need to take the seat off to be able to attach the piston? Thanks for any help, hoping there is a trick to avoid breaking the new part. Juranti

Ok,, this is from memory, so bear with me...

I found it IMPOSSIBLE to simply compress the shock. I took a ratchet strap and looped it around it to shrink it about 1-inch. I remember disconnecting something that left the seat connected but allowed it to open a bit more than normal. I was then able to slip it in and bolt it up. I lowered the seat to let the strap loosen up. Took the strap off, lowered the seat a bit more to line up what i took off that allowed it to open more.

I was able to get the shock installed. I used a 6" worm clamp from Home Depot. Worked great and although a but tight getting it out afterwards, it did the trick.
