Rave valve stuck in it's hole.

Yall are not gonna believe this!?. I was going to replace the head gasket I finally got and my hands will allow me to do it and I decided to remove the rave valves to give me some more room to do it. The PTO side rave came out ok. The Mag side rave is/was stuck. So, I got my dent puller and got it out. Look inside the space it goes in and looks like it got pushed in some how through the bolt hole directly over it. I'm heart broken! I have no idea what to do about this but replace the motor. It's killing me. I have no idea how this happened. It wasn't like this before I pulled the head top plate off. I don't know what to do. Had to post. Maybe yall have some ideas. I give up. :banghead::svengo::puke::confused:

I can't get down into the cavity. As you can see the rave valve is not going down all of the way in one cavity. It came out in 1 piece. I just looked the up the price of a new head. I think I'm going to have to salvage this ski now.

are you sure the slot the rave goes in isn't just packed with burnt oil sludge? When I got my skis, one rave was stuck in sludge, the o-ring had disintegrated and the plastic cap was melted. Lack of maintenance by prior owner.

I can't give you a definitive answer but from what I can see, I think you're O.K., especially since the rave valve came out in one piece. Is there any damage to the piston or cylinder? Can you post a picture of the rave valve?

Lou

No. It's real clean inside the cavity. I keep mine as clean as I can. I didn't take pics of the Rave valve just where it goes into the head.

See the pic of the valve in the Mag cavity? That's as far as it goes in. See how far it goes in on the PTO side? It looks like something is bent inside the head keeping it from going in all of the way. I'm sure it's not supposed to be like this.

I have no idea how to do that. Top ends cost as much as a rebuilt engine so it seems. I hate my life.

No it's cheaper by at least half.

Look in the manual, basically you undue the bolts to the exhaust manifold, should be 4 bolts holding the cylinders to the crank, undue the vent lines and pull.

So you can pull the head off but you cant pull the cylinders, wow... Either get a shop manual and learn or stay helpless and take it to a shop.

What Lou is asking you...Is the Rave valve still in one piece and not damaged????
If so, then it was probably just stuck due to sludge build up (as Jake said) and you could be good to go after a couple new o-rings and a cleaning.

I think you are worrying about nothing major...but if you are selling it, I'll buy it "cheap" ......LOL.....:)

I'm not selling it. LOL. I had to use a dent puller to get it out. When I tried to insert the rave valve back into the head it still won't go in all the way like the other one. I was looking at all of the bolts that hold the top plate on. I happened to drop one in the hull and was using a magnet to try and get it out. Little did I know that they are not iron. So, I was playing with all of the bolts and one didn't look the same as the rest. It was staying magnetized to the magnet. Weird huh? So I started comparing its size with the rest. It's about 1.5 inches longer or so. Maybe less but it is longer than the rest. So, that tells me the rave hasn't been working since I bought the thing cause someone put the wrong bolt in. All the luck in the world I have don't I?!.
So, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have to remove that head and either take it to be machined or find a used one cheap. I don't know if it can be fixed. Looks like that bolt above the rave valve cavity is where the long one was to cause this kinda damage. I'm lucky it didn't destroy the whole engine. I lubed it up real good. From the carbs and the spark plug holes. I turned it over and it looks ok. I put the top plate back on with old gasket just to keep it kinda air tight for now. I hope this is an easy fix.

OK, first off, please get a manual. That is NOT the head, that is the cylinder. The head is the "top plate" that the spark plugs screw into. But don't feel bad as you're not the only one here that makes that same mistake.;)
Remove the cylinder and take it to your machinist. He should be able to repair the damage from the "too long head bolt".

I don't care whop you are that is pretty dang funny!

Seriously, I don't think you are in as bad a problem as you apparently think you are. Look at the pistons like Lou said and see if there is damage. The jugs come off fairly easy and that should allow you access to the bolt. While you have the jugs off go ahead and replace all the gaskets. Clean the heck out of the RAVE's before you put them back in. Am I missing something? Just don't sound like as big-o-deal as you are making it out to be.

Not being that savvy on the current trends (read old fart like Lou) i looked up "emo" and discovered the meaning from Urban Dictionary:

"A group of white, mostly middle-class well-off kids who find imperfections in there life and create a ridiculous, depressing melodrama around each one. They often take anti-depressants, even though the majority don't need them. They need to wake up and deal with life like everyone else instead of wallowing in their imaginary quagmire of torment."

Of course some of the problems with skis are more than imaginary....

Do y'all think I never read these thread, who are you calling an old fart!!! Now where did I leave my cane? Gotta go now you young whipper snappers. Maw just called me to take my Aerocept.

well, it sounds like my analysis was spot on ! hahah

in other words to the OP, quit yer bitchin, sometimes things break and a rave valve is no reason to "hate your life"
