Rave covers

Hello,
I just bought a 1997 challenger 1800 with twin 110hp motors. When I bought it the guy told me that the motors were hard to start, but once started they ran fine. He also noted that one motor would not rev over about 4000rpm.
When I got it home I also found that the rave covers had been taken off the one motor, the parts were still there in a bag! When I checked out the parts the black covers had about 1/2 inch hole drilled in each cap, can anyone explain this?
Standby, many more questions to come!!

The holes are normal, sorta. Some guys drill the holes in the covers so they can actually see that the RAVEs are working. It is just a sight hole, and will not affect the functioning of the RAVE valves.

Now that 4000rpm motor has me more worried...that is right about where the rev limiter is. Is this the same motor without the RAVE valves?

thanks for the reply, not sure what motor it is, the guy I bought this from was no mechanic! I can probably use some help myself, looks like its going to be a project!
I presume the limiter is todo with not allowing the motor over 4000rpm as a protection? Any reasons why it would do this, something I can look for?
thanks

You might want to read in the manual how the rave valve operates. It will give you good insight as to what is going on under way. The rave valve allow the rpm's to raise quickly by opening the size of the exhaust port. Your manual is kinda your bible of your seadoo.
