All,

1996 GTX.

I had a great first ride of the year yesterday, but came home to find oil sprayed all over the head, and the head side of the hull. I poked around for a few seconds and realized that the plugs were loose - I never fully tightened them!! :banghead:

I'm reasonably certain this is where the oil spray came from. I was actually quite surprised how well the ski ran if there was enough of a gap for oil to spray out - I would have expected low compression symptoms.

In any case, is there anything I should be worried about or check for? I'm really hoping I didn't do any damage. From the way it ran, I don't think I did - but I thought I would throw it out there.

Thanks,
Andy

just a dumb precautionary question..

it was black/thin oil, not greasy thick stuff right ?
(just making sure something obvious like the pto cover was off as well)

I'm with Lou,,, other than a bit of a mess, no harm done. The good thing is that the plugs were in deep enough that they didn't blow out and damage the threads in the head.

Leaky raves will also make a nasty oily mess. Give those a look over as well

Keep the 2 strokes alive!

Thanks Everyone,

I don't mind taking a few notches off my pride so long as the GTX keeps running good! I don't believe I did that - I remember intending to grab the ratchet to torque them down. You know what they say about good intentions, though!
