Hope someone can help,
I had a guy install a garmin gps in my utopia. He got the power from the radio so the garmin works only when you turn on the main radio toggle switch. I have had the radio go out several times now and you can't even reset it. Like it goes in protection mode. The last time it went I tried putting a cd in and it would not even take that. Even when the radio goes out the Garmin works like a charm. The problem is every time this guy comes back the radio works. He gets it working out of the water not sure when the engine is running has an effect. Thanks for all your help Dino

Hey dino...tell'm whats up,and run GPS its own power with on/off button. This will isolate the problem. Still have issues, then start checking ground/antenna connection/s, plug on radio...etc..

Accessories....

In your forward electrical box, you should have a connector (usally a purple wire) that is used strictly for accessories. If he's taping that garmin into your stereo system, he's robbing the power from the stereo's amp. The garmin will run on a set power supply. When the stereo is on, the power supply needed will vary depending on how much power you supply to the spearkers. The speakers on any piece of sound equipment take up to 80% of the units power supply. If it works better when it's running, that because the engine supplies 14 volts DC from the charging system. When it's off, your only getting about 12 volts or a tad bit higher.

You need to seperate the two. Look for a secondary accessory wire.
