Have an 06 Challenger 4-Tec/215 /SC In the past I have used mineral oil, I see Seadoo selling kits that incl, plugs/ filter/O-rings? and 1 gal of 5-40, synthetic oil. There is large print saying it is for ALL 4-Tec engines but doesn't specifically say super Charged... Price for the kit is cheap, but I need to make sure this synthetic is the right oil for my boat?
Thanks in advance for any help you guys might be able to lend....

FYI, I have the twin 215's in mine, which is also supercharged , and outside the 10 hour change I've run Mobil 1 synthetic for bikes.

I was concerned as well but did enough research and felt it was better for as hard as I run mine. I have always used a synthetic grade in my vehicles, almost always, Mobil 1. In fact last time mine was in for service I asked the guy out in the yard what he thought and he did not hesitate with comment that the synthetic is OK to use as long as it had the JASO MA or MA2 rating on the packaging. It's expensive but at one change per year in my region personally I think it's worth it.

Thanks Scott...I had heard concerns of using synthetic in super charged boats, even though I have changed out the ceramic washers to S/S, I was still concerned so I decided to go with the seadoo synthetic / blend oil. Dealer quoted over $80. for 3 qts oil, filter, and o-rings...found a way better deal for a seadoo maintenence kit on ebay...comes with with a gal of syn/blend oil, filter, o-rings PLUS, 3 spark plugs for $63. no tax and free delivery....

synthetic better?

why do you think synthectic oil is better than REAL oil. because the oil companies selling it say so or because it is more expensive and we assume it must be because of the price. synthetic oil is one of the biggest scams out there.

Do NOT run synthetic oil in the supercharged engines. It will cause supercharger slippage. Is that kit a genuine sea doo product? I would read up in your owners manual and do what it says. They may have a newer blend that is safe for the superchargers. I haven't really look much.

SeaDoo has recently come out with a synthetic blend oil that SeaDoo says is fine for all the the superchargers.

RF...yeah, the "kit" comes in a box with the Seadoo logo labeled XPS, Maintenence kit....I called three local dealers, all of whom told me Seadoo no longer carries a pure mineral oil, they all recommend,(and use) the (synthetic) blend oil in their normal service, which is NOT pure synthetic. The big rap on pure synthetic was using it in boats with ceramic washers, I have long since replaced those with Reva s/s on my ride....The "blend" is now recommended for ALL Seadoo products, be they, super-charged and naturally aspirated....

I had some of the same concerns and spent quite a bit of time looking into this. The biggest issues was with the JASO spec. It specifically addressed the clutch slippage issue. And yes I had the washers swapped and would have never tried it before having those replaced.

As to the comment on synthetic and it's advantages... Bottom line is it's my hard earned dollar and that's my choice. For those that believe otherwise I respect your opinion too. Not going to debate......

I rebuilt my SC 3 times and in the end oil was an issue. Bought the boat 2nd hand and was told the ceramic washers had let go and SC had been rebuilt under warranty. Took possession and the SC let go after 2 hours - gears went inside the engine as nut was not put on properly and no locktite was used and back bearing had seized. Repaired damaged oil pumps and put in standard oil to ensure oil pump pressure. SC failed again after 2 hours as back bearing again failed. Read about a 2008 models had a oil squirter to shoot oil into a hole in supercharger housing which was supposed to aid lubrication so I modified my SC and drilled a 1/8" hole and then got 5 hours before the back bearing failed. Bought a new SC which was the correct one for my model and it had a 1/4" oil hole and the engine runs fantastic. I was advised you need Seadoo XPS synthetic oil - very liquid. They don't tell you but this is 5W oil and that is the secret - it is so thin it gets in all the right places like SC bearings. Been told latest European cars run 0W oil. I think the issue is oil weight not brand.

oil is not the problem

oil has 2 parts like 5w-30 or 0w-40 or whatever your using and the bigger number is the thickness of your oil as it warms up. i think you solved your problem when you bought a new sc.
