Question on 717 tuned pipe

The port engine tuned pipe on my 99 Sportster 1800 keeps separating at the connection between the pipe and the cone (large rubber hose connecting the two sections). It does this under heavy acceleration a short time after getting underway. Is this a symptom of a larger problem, or as simple as faulty clamps?

unless the outlet is plugged... I'd say it's just a bad clamp and coupler.

Like the Doc said check for obstructions after the pipe (water box). If you cant find any it is probably the coupler. For some reason once they start to go bad even cleaning them and over tightening they will somehow still come off. I have seen radiator hoses even with 2 clamps do it and a new hose cures the problem. Also make sure that the two metal pieces of the pipe are touching inside the coupler, you do not want a gap.
